The Games Freezer Team escaped the clutches of The Freezer* and hit the road in search of Sun, Sea and Amusement Arcades!



After arriving on The Sunny Tropical Isle Of Wight and taking a trip to Sandown Pier Amusement Arcade it was time to get stuck into the Arcade Games.



We took some cool pictures of our fave cabinets and thought it would be good to share some of these Arcade Classics with all the Games Freezer clan with a little bit about each game taken from Arcade Museum or good old WikiPedia
Name: Mario Kart - Arcade - GP2

Manufacturer: Nintendo / NAMCO

Year Of Release: 2007



Super Mario Kart Arcade GP 2 - Great Game!


Mario Kart Arcade GP 2 is the sequel to Mario Kart Arcade GP. It is the second game in the Arcade series and the seventh overall.



The game has custom karts for characters, similar to Mario Kart: Double Dash!! and Mario Kart DS.

In addition to this, several new items not seen in its predecessor appear in it.

Like the predecessor, Pac-Man characters appear as playable in this game.

The game also introduces Mametchi as a playable character.

Ingame, it appears to be broadcasted live and has color-commentary of the player by a narrator, whose language depends on the region of the game.



Name: Title Fight

Manufacturer: SEGA

Year Of Release: 1991

Title Fight - Always gives you blisters!


A boxing game where the player character is a boxer outlined in green. You fight against several champs in your quest to win the belt!



You have to fight several world champions using the boxing glove sticks. Some champs are parodies of famous boxers, like Lucky Marciano.



After fighting the champs, you win the belt and become a world champion. After winning the belt, the game begins again with a higher difficulty



You have to fight your opponent's boxers in order to win the belt. The left joystick controls your left fists, and the right joystick controls your right fists. Should you get KO'd, you have to quickly twist your sticks before the count of ten to get up.



This game is very similar to Punch-Out!!, because you look through your body and it is outlined in green.



Name: Harley Davidson & LA Riders

Manufacturer: SEGA

Year Of Release: 1998

Harley Davidson - Cool Bike!

A motorcycle game that allows players to choose from a variety of Harleys to ride. Race to various points around L.A. before the timer expires. Avoid a variety of obstacles and pick up bonus items scattered throughout the landscape.



The objective is similar to the later Sega arcade game, Crazy Taxi (1999).



There are five playable bike models in the game:

•FL 1948 Panhead

•FXDWG Dyna Wide Glide

•Sportster 1200 Sport

•FXRP Police Motorcycle



Name: Ghost Squad

Manufacturer: SEGA

Ghost Squad - Also great on the Wii !





Sega released Ghost Squad for the arcade in 2004.



Ghost Squad features a simulated IR light gun shaped similar to the standard issue weapon the game's protagonists use.



This light gun is intended to function realistically: it features a working fire selector switch, a stock, force-feedback recoil, and iron sights.



To ensure that the light gun fires accurately, a 20-second "calibration" mode is provided in which the game adjusts for any jostling or damage to the rifle's light-emitting components.



Ghost Squad features different weapons, each with its firing and reload properties (i.e. long shot splash, long reload time) which affect its difficulty of use.



Ghost Squad features three semi non-linear levels with adjustable difficulty and branching choices, ranging from the jungle, a government-restricted villa, and inside an Air Force One flight.



There are many sub-activities in the game, such as defusing bombs and throwing grenades to disable armor, which are accomplished via the secondary "Action" trigger on the gun's foregrip.

Star Wars Trilogy Arcade is an arcade game first released in 1998. The game is a 3-D rail shooter based on the original trilogy of Star Wars films and was released along with the special editions of these films.




Name: The House Of The Dead III

The House Of The Dead III



The House of the Dead III is a 2002 light gun arcade game with a horror zombie-survival theme, and the third installment to the House of the Dead series of video games, developed by Wow Entertainment and Sega.



It was later ported to the Xbox in 2003, Microsoft Windows in 2005, the Wii in 2008 in a compilation with The House of the Dead 2, and PlayStation 3 in 2012 with PlayStation Move support.



The game continues the story of the previous games and introduces new gameplay concepts such as story branching.



The game's main protagonist is Lisa Rogan, daughter of Thomas Rogan and newcoming Dan Taylor, the first game's main character, and players control Lisa, G, or Daniel Curien



Name: The House Of The Dead IV

The House Of The Dead IV
The House of the Dead 4 is a light gun arcade game with a horror theme and the fourth installment of the House of the Dead series of video games, developed by Sega.



The House of the Dead 4 continues the story of the first two games and fills in the gap in the storyline between The House of the Dead 2 and The House of the Dead III, whilst introducing several new gameplay concepts.



Players can play as either James Taylor, from The House of the Dead 2, or Kate Green, a new character to the series.



Name: The Lost World - Jurassic Park

Manufacturer: SEGA

Year Of Release: 1997

Jurassic Park - Lost World - We Love Fighting T-Rex!




The player controls one of two rangers on Isla Sorna, Site B, whose goal is to find Ian Malcolm and Sarah Harding, who are the only ones that can get them off the island.



Throughout the game, the players are beset by packs of Velociraptors, on occasion fighting groups of Dilophosaurus, Compsognathus, Pachycephalosaurus, and Geosternbergia.



At the end of each level, player must also fight a boss: a female Tyrannosaurus in the jungle, a Deinosuchus on the lake, a color-changing Carnotaurus in a man-made dome, and finally the two parent tyrannosaurs in the worker village.



<SPOILER ALERT>



After the final boss, the bull tyrannosaur, is defeated, the players are rescued and the game ends..






Name: Virtua Striker 4

Virtua Striker IV


The Virtua Striker (γƒγƒΌγƒγƒ£γ‚Ήγƒˆγƒ©γ‚€γ‚«γƒΌ in Japanese) video games are arcade-style football/soccer sports games by Sega.



Originally developed by Sega AM2, the series moved to Amusement Vision with Virtua Striker 3. But the series moved again to Sega AM2 with Virtua Striker 4.



The original Virtua Striker released in 1994 was the first football game to use 3D computer graphics, and was also notable for its early use of texture mapping, along with Sega's own racing video game Daytona USA.



Name: Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, released as Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles in Europe, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Super Kame Ninja (ティーンエむジ・γƒŸγƒ₯γƒΌγ‚Ώγƒ³γƒˆ・ニンジャ・γ‚ΏγƒΌγƒˆγƒ«γ‚Ί スーパー亀忍者) in Japan, is a side-scrolling beat-'em-up released by Konami as a coin-operated video game in 1989.



It is based on the first Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles animated series which began airing in the winter of 1987.



The original coin-operated game was distributed to the arcades in two variants: a standard 2-player version that allowed either player to choose their character and a deluxe 4-player version with each player controlling a different character. Home versions of the game were released for various platforms.



Name: Crisis Zone

Crisis Zone - 1 Player Time Crisis

 


In Crisis Zone, the player is part of the elite anti-terrorist trooper of the Special Tactical Force (S.T.F.), Claude McGarren.



The game uses the same pedal system to reload and hide; however, the player uses a machine gun, a customized Steyr Mannlicher TMP with a sight laser and a capacity of 40 rounds.



Players take cover behind a portable ballistic shield that is strapped to the character's left arm. Crisis Zone is the first Time Crisis game to date to allow the player to select between three levels to play in any order. Upon completion of all three of them, the player can then play the final level to beat the game.



Name: Daytona USA

Daytona USA - The sight of this always gets us excited!

Daytona USA is a racing video game developed by Sega AM2 and released by Sega, with a limited release in 1993 followed by a full release in 1994.



Considered one of the highest grossing arcade games of all time, Daytona USA was Sega's first title to debut on the Sega Model 2 arcade board, and, at the time of its 1994 release, was considered the most visually detailed 3D arcade racing game.



Despite a lower polygon-count than its predecessor, Virtua Racing, Daytona's 3D-world was fully texture-mapped, giving it a more realistic appearance than the former.



Daytona was one of the first video games to feature filtered, texture-mapped polygons, giving it the most detailed graphics yet seen in a video game up until that time.



In single-player mode, Daytona maintained a consistent 60fps refresh rate, even with multiple opponents on screen, surpassing the motion smoothness of the only other racing game in a comparable graphical arena, Namco's Ridge Racer.



Name: Crazy Taxi

The arcade version of Crazy Taxi was released in 1999, and featured only the San Francisco-inspired map (known as "Arcade" in the first console game, and later as "West Coast" in sequels).



The "Standard Version" arcade cabinet included a cockpit seat, steering wheel, a gear shift lever (for forward and reverse gear) and a brake and acceleration pedal; a more compact "Naomi Cabinet Version" also existed without the cockpit seat.



The arcade game was one of the first to use the Sega NAOMI hardware processor, which is based on the Sega Dreamcast and was unveiled as part of Sega's exhibition at the 1999 Amusement Operators Union exposition in Japan.

The Fast and the Furious (Wild Speed in Japan) is an arcade game based on the street racing themed 2001 film of the same name. It was developed and published by Raw Thrills.



They can be viewed as a spiritual successor to the Cruis'n series, as they contain many similar elements and were both designed by Eugene Jarvis. The original arcade game was even ported to the Wii under the name Cruis'n, with all elements of the film license removed.

Sega Rally is a series of racing video games published by Sega and developed by several studios including Sega AM3, Sega and Sega Racing Studio.



The series released its first title, Sega Rally Championship in 1994. Initially, Sega Rally Championship was exclusive to Arcade. The titles consist of racing with different cars on various tracks.



Name: Ballistics

Manufacturer: GRIN

Year Of Release: 2002

Ballistics - Cool Lay Down Cabinet!

 





Ballistics is a futuristic racing computer game developed by Grin and published by Xicat Interactive in 2001.



Grin developed an arcade version of the game, released in 2002 featuring a unique reclined seating position cabinet by Triotech Amusement. Players race across seven different tracks in various leagues against other competitors on high-speed hoverbikes.



The game was Grin's first to be released, and featured the first version of their Diesel game engine. Grin worked closely with NVIDIA to incorporate then new technologies into the game, and was marketed as one of the flagship titles for the GeForce 3 Series of graphics cards.



Critical reaction was generally favourable, with reviewers being impressed by the beauty of the graphics and the thrilling depiction of speed. They were however, slightly disappointed with the shallow nature of the gameplay.



A newer version of the arcade game was released in 2003, incorporating motion simulator technology into the arcade cabinet.



Name: SCUD Race

Manufacturer: SEGA

Year Of Release: 1996

Scud Race
 SCUD Race, "Sport Car Ultimate Drive" or otherwise known as Sega Super GT in North America, is an arcade racing game released by Sega in 1996.



It is the first racing game to be using the Sega Model 3 hardware.



A Sega Saturn port was planned and then the project was moved to the Dreamcast and shown as a tech-demo in the Dreamcast Presentation in 1998, but then after the Dreamcast Presentation, the game was cancelled.



Name: Mazan - "Flash Of The Blade"

Year Of Release: 2002

Mazan - You have to enjoy a cabinet with a Samurai Sword!
A Sensor motion game, where the player takes the role as a samurai. The player's controls is the samurai's weapon of choice the sword.



Being a sensor motion game, the characters success, score and very life, depends on the player's manipulation of the sword to be at the right place at the right time.



The machine can give a instructional demo on how to handle the sword and what is require to be successful the game. The game protrays a sword fight from a 1st person perspective(through the eyes of the samurai.) The enemies with attack, the players best offence is to parry the enemy's weapon, which will stagger the opponents. Leaving a opening for the player to counter attack.



The action including the player's sword movement, enemies attacking and dying is protrayed on the screen. Various moves and sword strokes are achieved by different motions by the sword.



The gameplay is very similar to House Of The Dead. You use your sword to attack zombies.






Name: Time Crisis 3

This is the third installment of the TIME series. The foot pedal that allows you to duck and reload is still here, and so is the ability to work with a partner as well as the guns recoil.



The games graphics are immensely better than TC2, with smooth animation and very detailed character models. The games length is reasonable for a shooter, not to long and not to short.



The one noticeable change besides the graphics, is the ability to chose different weapons while you're ducking. There's a handgun, machine gun, grenade launcher, and a gun that fires multiple bullets in one shot. With each enemy you eliminate, you gain different ammo depending on what weapon the enemy posessed. However you cannot run out of normal hand gun ammo. This is a great game that won't disappoint Time Crisis fans and will also create many new ones.


Name: Point Blank 2

Point Blank 2 - 2 Player Carnage!

 





A sequel to Point Blank. A shooting game from Namco that features several different levels. Some of the modes include Point Blank Castle (competition mode), Theme Park Mode (a quest mode), and Party Mode (multi-player).



You'll also come across clever puzzles such as one in which you shoot the cork off a champagne bottle and defuse a time bomb.



Name: Silent Hill "The Arcade"

Silent Hill The Arcade


Silent Hill: The Arcade is an arcade game spin off of the survival horror video game series Silent Hill developed by Konami.



The Arcade was first revealed at the 2007 Japan Arcade Operator's Union trade show by Konami.



The game was eventually released in Japan in August 2007, and during 2008 in Europe.




Being a rail shooter, Silent Hill: The Arcade is a large departure from the normal survival horror mechanics of the main series.



Silent Hill: The Arcade deals with two characters, Eric and Tina, who have entered the town of Silent Hill and must battle monsters while uncovering the mystery behind Eric's nightmares about a girl and a steamship.

Let's Go Jungle!: Lost on the Island of Spice is a joystick-mounted gun arcade game by Sega.



Players take the roles of a man and a woman stranded on a jungle island which has been overrun by monsters. Each player must shoot the monsters with his or her machine guns while looking for rescue.



There is also another version of the game called Let's Go Jungle! Special in which players sit on a revolving seat with one large projection screen in front and one in back.



Name: Sweet Factory

Manufacturer: NAMCO

Year Of Release: 1992

We love this Robot Dude...he gives us sweets!

A redemption game, normally filled with chocolate bars or similar items. It has a robot with a scoop which pushes the items towards the chute, rather than a traditional arm which picks them up (and drops them!).
