Pang Man Part 10 – Cool Stores: CyberCandy in Covent Garden

"On a visit to Covent Garden, I walked passed a store that immediately grabbed my attention.
The name of the store was Cyber Candy (https://twitter.com/CyberCandyLTD).
It was a sweet shop selling retro and current treats.
The window display was bright and attractive, full of colourful happy characters, but what really drew me in was the gigantic Willy Wonka gumball machine by the entrance.

It was the kind of prop you would rarely see except in a film museum, so it really stood out as the focal point of the store.
That was enough to pique my interest (even if I did think the Tim Burton remake of the movie was rubbish compared to the original!) enough to go inside for a quick browse.
I must admit my initial expectations upon entering the shop were low. I thought I might see a few classic sweets, like Refreshers or Sherbet fountains, so imagine my surprise when it turned out to be a small slice of gaming heaven!
Everywhere I looked there were gaming related sweets and treats!
The gaming classic Pac-man involved the title character eating pellets, so how perfect was it to see Pac-man pellet candy!

I’m a huge Super Mario fan so anything with the iconic characters is a big draw for me.
So luckily I managed to find quite a bit of our favourite plumber around the shop!

And I also found some cool Mario Kart inspired sweets too!

For the more hardcore gamer we had Gears of War peppermints and Resident Evil inspired treats.

For the retro gamer we have Tetris mints and Atari joystick replicas!

Speaking of remote control replicas, Wii remote gumballs were also available too.

Now as you can imagine, I couldn’t leave the store without getting a few bits and bobs for myself! So here are a few of the items that I took away with me….
  1. A Super Mario Yo-Yo
I loved Yo-Yo’s as a kid, but unfortunately I was rubbish at them. I always wished I could do tricks like “Around the world” and “Walk the Dog” etc, but I never could. Anyhow seeing this Yo-Yo inspired me to try again!

Now having tried my Yo-Yo skills again, I realise that the Super Mario Yo-Yo isn’t exactly the best quality for doing tricks. (Or it could be because I am rubbish. Most likely it’s a combination of these two facts in reality). But anyhow it looks cool and anyhow it even has some candy hidden inside!

2.  Mario Candy
I bought this simply because I liked the fact that the container was in the shape of Mario’s head!

3. NES controller mints
For my final purchase I picked up some Nintendo power mints. I love the way the tin replicates the iconic NES controller, whilst the Nintendo Power logo truly gives it the retro edge!

Anyway that’s it from me on this cool sweet shop. I think it’s definitely worth a visit for those with a sweet tooth or for those that love gaming related merchandise.
The company has a number of shops around the UK but I believe the Covent Garden branch in Garrick Street is the flagship store.
For those who want to know more, check out their website at http://www.cybercandy.co.uk/store/Covent-Garden-Store.html or just pop by in person.
Thanks for listening!"
