🕹️ 1992 - The Greatest Year In Video Games History? 🕹️ #GamersUnite #RetroGaming

After extensive thought and research (Google)
I hereby declare that 1992 was...

"THE GREATEST YEAR IN VIDEO GAMES!"

Why!? I hear you yell….

Well if you sit down for a moment and listen to
what I've got to say then I'll tell you exactly WHY….
The Games That Made It A Golden Year

For me 1992 was all about the games. There were some cracking releases and I must have played more games that year of my life than any other year since.

So let's have a look at the games that made it a special year…..

Super Mario Land 2 (GAMEBOY)
Street Fighter 2 (SNES)
Dragon Quest V (SNES)
Super Mario Kart (SNES)
Final Fantasy V (SNES)
Sonic 2 (MEGADRIVE)
Kirby's Dream Land (GAMEBOY)
Mortal Kombat (VARIOUS)
Zool (VARIOUS)
Ultima VII (PC)
Wolfenstein 3D (VARIOUS)
Indiana Jones & The Fate Of Atlantis (VARIOUS)
Ecco The Dolphin (MEGADRIVE)
Art Of Fighting (NEO GEO)
Star Control II (PC)
Alone In The Dark (PC)
Dune II (PC)
Championship Manager (AMIGA)
Flashback (VARIOUS)
SONIC CD (MEGA CD)

Just look at those beauties!

Now if I were to pick 5 of those amazing games to illustrate just how good a year it was, I'd say…..
  1. Street Fighter 2 (SNES)
  2. Super Mario Kart (SNES)
  3. Championship Manager (Various)
  4. Indiana Jones & The Fate Of Atlantis (Various)
  5. SONIC 2 (MegaDrive)
Every one of the 5 above was a "Game Changer"

So many hours were poured into these great games and even now they are all so much fun to play at over 20 years old!

The Systems

The consoles and computers released in 92 were few but ultimately important.

SNES was released in Europe

MEGA CD was released in North America

Amiga 1200 was released
For me, the SNES release in Europe was the single most important occurrence in my video gaming life. The SNES will always be my favourite gaming machine. The perfect balance between beautiful visuals and amazingly fun games. The SNES was Nintendo at its peak.
Has NINTENDO released a better console since?

The MEGA CD paved the way for CD systems going forward with its brilliant SONIC CD release. Maybe not the commercial success SEGA was looking for but a bold move by the SEGA boys.

Then there was the Amiga 1200 unfortunately the1200 was an ill-fated machine that never saw the heights that the 500 & 600 did. Of course, there are plenty of 1200 fans out there but it never had the impact of the other 2 models and came at a time when Commodore was about to hit the rocks!

Let's also not forget that the Nintendo Entertainment System was also still going strong despite being at the back end of its lifecycle. The NES in the UK felt like it was actually at its peak at this time as it took us Brits a while to get on the NES train due to the Speccys and C64s that dominated the market in the 80s.

Looking back now, it has to be those great games of the class of '92
that made it such a vintage year with my personal favourite being Super Mario Kart.

Surely those years don't come along that often?
