After a lengthy trawl of The Playstation Store and some in depth research I have finally found my next game on PS4.....
Last week I downloaded Hotline Miami and now I just can't get the game out of my head!
First of all Hotline Miami is in the PSN Digital Sale right now and I got it for an amazing £3.79!
Once downloaded and on my PS4 it was everything I had hoped for. It's like a trippy dream that is mixture of Clockwork Orange, Kill Bill and some kind of David Lynch film.
From the beginning you don't really know what the hell is going on as you walk around the neon tinged buildings of the game.
It feels like you are always fighting the controls in order to efficiently outmaneuver your killing machine around the rooms dispatching the bad asses that you have been sent to deal with.
Every kill you make has a satisfying set of sounds associated with it, whether it's a case of fists, shivs, knives, shotguns, machine guns or silenced pistols any kill is no easy feat.
There's an interesting cycle that I seem to get into when playing.
Step 1: Do a scouting mission around the building to see how many goons are in there
Step 2: Work out the best method for dispatching these crazy fools!
Step 3: Wait for the perfect opportunity to begin the killing spree
Step 4: Walk through a door, mistime my hit and then die in the blink of an eye!
Yes, there is a lot of dying in Hotline Miami but it is expected as you formulate and re plan after every botched attempt to clear the level.
The thing is, you are constantly improving and learning from your mistakes as you try try and try again.
Throw into the mix the cool masks that you can adorn before each level and you have one of the most intriguing and trippiest games that I have ever played.
I am totally baffled as to where the story is going but I genuinely want to find out the who, what and why of this game whilst also wanting to see what masks, weapons and locations I encounter next.
This game is simple and yet it is going to take some mastering, especially as it feels like the levels and skills required to complete those levels are going to just keep getting harder.
But do you know what, I am up for the challenge!
