I am a big fan of gaming collectibles so anything gaming related will appeal instantly grab my attention. A few weeks ago I was driving to pick up some Vietnamese takeaway when I spotted a big billboard with Yoshi on it.
A closer look revealed that the 2017 range of Super Mario toys were now available at McDonald's.
I was so excited I nearly decided to get another lunch on top of the Vietnamese I had just ordered. Luckily common sense prevailed and I went online to check when the promotion was starting and when it would end.
The 2017 range of toys included 8 different Collectibles, 2 per week for 4 weeks. 1 random toy would be available per Happy Meal.

Now I don’t usually eat McDonald’s these days, not for health reasons, but more due to the fact that there isn’t one within walking distance of my home and work. This was as good as an excuse as any to get some fast food and a gaming collectible at the same time. (On a side note, I once watched the documentary Super-Size Me about a guy who eats only McDonalds every day for a month, but instead of putting me off McDonald's, it made me hungry)

Over the coming weeks, I managed to get the full set, and they are now proudly displayed on my desk at work or in my cabinet at home.

I must admit I felt absolutely no shame in buying a Happy meal for myself (but I did saw the cashier look for the presence of any kids around me when I made the order). The fruit juice drink is pretty nice, to be honest!

I forgot to take a photo of the Super Mario themed Happy Meal packaging in the 1st few weeks, so unfortunately by the time I remembered the packaging had changed to The Batman Movie.

Of the 8 toys, I would say Luigi, Bowser and the Red Shell were the best from a fun perspective. The Mario Blocks, Peach and the Mario waving toy were a little dull re-playability wise.

For display purposes, they all look quite good though and are a good talking point when someone notices them as they walk by your desk.
