☆ Review: Karma. Incarnation 1 "Uniquely Surreal" ☆ #GameDev

Karma. Incarnation 1 - PC

There aren't many games that seem to dabble into the abstract or even the surreal much. I can't even recall the last game I've played that's ever really touched on the area until I played Karma. Incarnation 1, which is one of the trippiest puzzlers you will ever have the pleasure to play.

Developed by AuraLab and published by Other Kind Games, Karma. Incarnation 1 is a very unique interpretation of a love story, where you play as, Pip the Worm, in search of his love who was stolen from him. Though that's the main theme, Karma also touches on the philosophy of karma, which allows the main character to interact with the many characters you'll encounter in the story in different ways.

Karma, aside from its unique story would be it's very creative art style that is beautifully hand-drawn. As you travel through the world in search of answers you will have puzzles that will challenge you and at times even frustrate you, but the game is quite forgiving in the sense that the main character or NPC nearby usually has a little tooltip pop up that you can interact with to help you get through the puzzle. Yet if that doesn't help you, you are given access to a unique power that lets you peep into the world of spirits which at times leads to unique clues or aspects to move forward.

The music selection in the game is calming in some areas and high energy in others to keep with the feel of the current "time" in the story. The sound effects convey emotions, scope, atmosphere, and more as there's not a single spoken word in the game, but doesn't need it as the hints make sure to keep you in the know as to where your next step is needed to be placed to complete your mission.

Summary:

Overall Karma. Incarnation 1 is definitely a hidden gem of a game that has amazing storytelling and colour that it's a lot of fun to play.

Also with how you play with the main character's morality, determines the outcome of the story, evil actions warp Pip, good deeds purify him.

Depending on how far in the realm of Good or Bad will reflect how the story plays out, thus creating more opportunities for replayability.
