Bubble Bobble 4 Friends on the Nintendo Switch for around £36 in the Nintendo eShop
BACK OF THE BOX QUOTE
“Hubble Bubble Toil & Trouble”
TYPE OF GAME
Bub and Bob are back with a bubble bursting bang in the latest game in the legendary Bubble Bobble series from Taito, yes it's Bubble Bobble 4 Friends
If you have ever played any of the original games then you will know the formula for this fun single-screen platformer game. Trap baddies in bubbles and burst the bubbles, collect the fruit that appears after the baddies pop, collect the letters to spell out a word, kill the boss and be rewarded with new powers to use on your next run of levels
You can play alone or with up to 3 friends in a couch co-op mode as you go head to head with the wicked magician Bonner and his henchmen.
A brilliant video game to play with family and friends as it’s easy to pick up and play.
LIKED
- The original Bubble Bobble arcade game from 1986 is included in the level select screen as an arcade machine which is awesome as it really hits you in the nostalgia gland.
- The presentation is top-notch as the Level select screen drops you into a bedroom full of video games goodies which really draws you in immediately.
- This game is so easy to pick up and bash through a few levels with a smile on your face and a spring in your step, it is a perfect fit for my Nintendo Switch library of games.
- The new abilities you get after completing a full level and killing a boss really mix things up in terms of strategy and it keeps you interested in a formula that only slightly changes as you go through each level.
DISLIKED
- The price. £36 is too much for a video game of this nature. It’s a great game but £36 is a stretch. I’d suggest £20 is the top end for this game.
- The music at first was a smile-inducing set of Japanese styled ditties but by the end of a 3-hour session I was turning my volume to zero on the Switch
RELEASE DATE

Summary
With a lovely hit of nostalgia and slick fun platforming gameplay, this is a game that I can truly get behind. It’s pick up and never put down addictive and I especially enjoyed playing this while my wife watched I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here and I turned the sound down on my Switch.
The only sticking points for me are the price which is too much for this type of video game. Then there is the music which at first was charming but by the end of my first session was migraine-inducing.
This little gem is getting an ICE COOL rating from me but with a caveat that says wait for it to go on SALE before you dive into its bubbly madness.
Right I’m off to pump 10 virtual credits into my virtual Bubble Bobble Machine and watch it kick my arse as it’s much tougher than I remember!
