For me, Alex Kidd in Miracle World was a game that defined my video games playing childhood. It was a game that everybody seemed to won as it was the pack-in game with the SEGA Master System II.

My best mate Paul had a Master System II and I had the Mark 1 version with the built-in snail game. When Paul got his sleek-looking Master System II I was in awe of its design and size along with the amazing built-in Alex Kidd game.

It felt like it was SEGA’s answer to Super Mario and at the time it felt fresh and new. The part that really caught my imagination was the rock, paper, scissors boss fights! I thought this was amazing!

One thing I do recall and it’s still true today is the fact that it’s hard as nails to beat this game. It’s a tough, non-forgiving 90s platformer that does not suffer fools gladly. Make a mistake and you WILL pay for it!

The other thing that I fondly remember about this game is the in-game map that charts your progress. That map is etched into my frontal lobe and always will be so I thought I’d create my own homage to the in-game map from Alex Kidd In Miracle World with my own Alex Kidd Fan Art.

Let me know if you like it :)
