Rocket Wars

Developer Name - Rooftop Panda
Format – Switch
Price - £10

You are a rocket fighting other rockets. A simple game. I think that it takes inspiration from the 1979 game Asteroids and taking inspiration from a classic is not a bad thing.

The game sees you flying around like a rocket with simple graphics around an arena type space area.

You use your rocket to destroy other rockets. Fighting against the simulator or against other people in online mode. You can get the chance to fight over different power-ups from lasers to a shotgun burst of bullets.
The game might be a simple one, but Rooftop Panda has put quite a bit of effort into the game with all the different modes like ‘team deathmatch’ and ‘free for all’.

The game also gives you the chance to unlock different ships all with their own strengths and weaknesses.
There are different modes to play and ships to unlock but that still isn’t enough to keep me playing or going back to it.  There couldn’t have really been a story with this game, but without a story, it lacks things to do in the game. Even though they’ve added some great extras, there still could have been more modes and ships to unlock to give the game more to do and keep players interested in the game.

Perhaps a game to play if you are stuck on another game or are already invested in the story of another game. A casual game to play now and again. Or one for someone who wants to reminiscence with a nostalgic game like Asteroids.
Summary
This is a simple game, but it takes the inspiration from a game like asteroids and makes it their own by adding some good extra mechanics.

The game is a good try at making a classic a good game again, but its lack of content and its lack of change to the simple mechanic doesn’t do them any favours to making people want to carry on playing the game.

It does add some good things to the game but not enough.
