🍕 Lunch-a-Palooza Review By Lee, A & J | "Although there's no shortage of colourful party games at the moment, I'm always up for another one." 🍕 @AlternSoftware #GameDev #IndieGames

Although there's no shortage of colourful party games at the moment, I'm always up for another one.

In the far distant past when we were still allowed within a mile of our friends, a group of us would often get together and swear at each other while playing Heave Ho, Jackbox, and Wario Ware.

So I approached Lunch-a-Palooza expecting another one for the rotation.

It's a simple game. You control a piece of food (ranging from a burger or a pizza slice through to an ice cream cone or a jelly), and, in the main game mode at least, the idea is to knock your enemies off the table until they run out of lives.

There are quite a few levels (dining tables in different locations) that all have their own features and hazards. For example, on the farm level, a UFO tries to abduct you from the table, and if it pulls you off the top of the screen you lose a life - so you're playing against the environment as well as the other players.
Graphically this game sticks out. The characters and levels are nice and colourful, and the music is suitably frantic if a little grating. Gameplay-wise though, the game does fall down. It's very difficult to use any sort of precision when attacking and moving around, so each round turns into a button basher where you hope that you're slightly more accurate than everyone else.

That's not to say it isn't fun, but it leads to a lot of cheap deaths. If you're playing with a gang of mates that wouldn't matter so much, but it does get irritating.

So I'm giving this a 6/10
In the interests of fairness though, I thought I should play this with other people rather than just against CPU players.

Luckily, I live with some other people who have played this game, and they consented to be interviewed and to give their own scores...
