🌡🀠🐍 Boot Hill Heroes | Review | Nintendo Switch | "There's A Snake In My Boots!" 🌡🀠🐍 @ExpGamerStudios #GameDev #IndieGames

Let it be said that I’m a sucker for pixel art retro aesthetic graphics.

Let it also be said that I love the thought of a Wild West Fantasy RPG.

Let it be known that I think that I love Boot hill Heroes for its charm and simplicity (and it’s pixel art retro aesthetic graphics)

This is the second Boot Hill game to be released on the Nintendo Switch but in fact, it is the first game in the Boot Hill series…

Last year my dear friend and fellow inhabitant of the Freezer took a close look at Boot hill Bounties which is, in fact, the second in the Boot hill series but appeared on the Switch before Boot Hill Heroes… STAY WITH ME…

Anyway, I’m sure you will agree that my explanation of the Switch specific order of these games has nothing to do with the game and how it plays so lets cut to the chase, shall we?

Boot Hill Heroes is a lovely game that has been out on Steam since 2014 and its made by those lovely folks at Experimental Gamer Studios. It has the look of a SNES game from the ‘90s which obviously sucked me in immediately.

I had Cyberpunk 2077 waiting for me on the PC and there I was playing essentially a SNES game on my Switch, it was bliss and it didn’t require a 9 gig update patch for me to play it.

Boot Hill Heroes is the first episode in a game series that attempts to fuse elements of spaghetti western films, gunslinger outlaws, brave lawmen and the untamed wilderness!

The story sees you play as Kid as you work your way towards bringing down the Saints Little Gang! It pulls on the influence of games like Final Fantasy, Earthbound and Chrono Trigger to create a pleasurable experience that is perfectly suited for the Nintendo Switch.

The combat is actually a real-time variant on the classic turn-based battles that sees you having to use your ‘vantages’ in a tactical way to bring down your foes.

I really liked the lack of random battles as that is one of the most annoying things about most games in this genre and I’m glad Boot Hill doesn’t follow this route.

The music which is supplied by Jake "virt" Kaufman is a delight and it’s something that truly elevates the game and enables you to immerse yourself in the world while you mosey on through this first chapter of Boot Hill.

The game will take around 8 hours to complete and it’s a lovely way to start of your Boot Hill Journey and the developers are looking to deliver a trilogy of these awesome games.

In Summary, this game is deceptively complex and intriguing and has a storyline that will keep you gripped and begging for more after you finish your stint in the wild west.

The battle system is fun and well thought out and I just love the way the music and the aesthetic mould together to create a great experience on the Switch.

You can pick this up for £8 on the eShop at the minute and it’s well worth your money.

Right, I’m off to change my hat and beat on some varmints!

8/10
