The Dark Eye: Chains of Satinav was originally released by Daedalic Entertainment in 2012 on PC and has now come over to the Nintendo Switch.
The Dark Eye: Chains of Satinav can definitely be defined as an old-school point-and-click adventure game and it's definitely entrenched in the design decisions that will please old school point n click enthusiasts but that may also put off newcomers to the genre as the frustration levels may increase unless you play with the assist / easy mode switched on.
Upon playing Chains of Satinav I learned that this is a game set in The Dark Eye fantasy universe which at some point included the RPG games called Realms of Arkania: Blade Of Destiny and Drakensang. The Dark Eye: Chains of Satinav was actually the first point-and-click adventure game set in that rich universe.
The Chains of Satinav's storyline revolves around Geron, who is a bird catcher's apprentice who has a small grasp of some magical powers. Geron's destiny changes seemingly for the better when he wins an oak leaf contest and is put into the service of the king but a spate of murders and the return of a blind seer leads Geron to seek out a fairy Allie called Nurie and try to avert the destruction of the kingdom of Anderghast.
At the start of The Darke Eye Chains of Satinav, I felt slightly overwhelmed with what I was expected to do and also what items to use with what when but the easier assist mode does help with making this easier.
Chains of Satinav is a really nice looking video game and has a lovely hand-painted style charm to it which I really enjoyed exploring and made me want to discover the different locations to take in the beauty of the game's artwork.
"Right, I'm off to crack clay pots just with a look and a squeeze of ZR!"
