When it comes to the gaming industry, it is obvious that the two top dogs in the industry are Sony, who operate Playstation products, and Microsoft, who operate Xbox products. However, since the resurgence of the Japanese gaming conglomerate company, Nintendo, in early 2017, according to data presented by Find Betting Sites it is evident that they present a challenge to the industry giants.
Yes - Nintendo. The renowned creators of childhood staples such as Super Smash Bros and Mario Kart, Nintendo first established themselves in 1889 and is undeniably one of the oldest and well-respected technology companies across the globe.
Following their discontinuation of the Wii in 2013 and a majority of DS’ between 2014 and 2019, it was apparent as they first began to cease production on some of the best internationally loved gaming products, that the brand was beginning to lose a sense of appeal amongst gamers.
With gamers gradually moving more towards higher quality and more immersive gaming experiences that could offer state of the art graphics and more explicit content within games, Nintendo was beginning to appear as a childish brand that was unable to effectively develop with the times.
This was up until 2017 however.
After discreetly developing the first-ever Nintendo Switch throughout the years building up to 2017, Nintendo began to emerge again. With an increase in publication and marketing schemes, to consumers, it quickly became obvious that Nintendo was preparing to release something unprecedented and hugely important.
When the Nintendo Switch was first released, the world went crazy. With an excess of consoles being sold, reaching up to an average of 70 million, Nintendo has once again secured its position as one of the most family-friendly and accessible gaming consoles.
With the Nintendo Switch average retail cost being dwarfed by alternative gaming consoles such as the Xbox One and Playstation 4, it became a fantastic alternative to gamers who were seeking to indulge in the nostalgia of childhood - without immense costs.
In comparison to both Sony and Microsoft, Nintendo is presenting a force to be reckoned with. Due to their immense 70 million sales soaring past the Xbox One sales that dwindled at 51 million four years after this model’s release, Nintendo had brought a fantastic sense of emerging competition between the market, driving an even further divide between competitor brands aiming to maintain top dog status.
Nintendo’s unanticipated rise back into the console market has presented competitor companies with the dilemma of having to attempt to surpass two respective companies in terms of units sold and the profits made. Yet by interjecting in the age-old rivalry between both Sony and Microsoft, Nintendo is surpassing all previous expectations - and excelling at it.
Nintendo is projected in the coming years to continue on its unparalleled upwards trend of sales. Selling 70 million consoles in the space of four years is a feat unmatched by competitor brands, who took up to eight years to just lightly edge over this margin, or failed to meet it at all.
This increases the likelihood that before Nintendo publicises the development and release of their newest Switch console, they will proportionately surpass their current units sold and their profit margin, to present even more of a threat to the big two console developers.
The future for Nintendo is nothing short of promising.
