🌵⚔️ Ittle Dew 2+ | Nintendo Switch | Review | 8.5/10 | "A Bigger Sequel That Keeps The Ideas Coming" 🌵⚔️ @Ludosity #IndieGames #GameDev

I adored the original Ittle Dew when I played it back in 2019, a really punchy top-down game with clear roots in early Zelda titles, a focus on fiendish puzzling and very open to newcomers to the genre. Top this off with the charming design, lilting music and a fun cast of characters – it was a winner.

Diving into this sequel (the ‘+’ marks an enhanced version featuring an extra dungeon and some additional features), it was instantly clear that the winning formula from the original had returned with an expanded scope, meaning there’s much more to discover in Ittle Dew’s world this time around.

Washing up on a shore (again!) with your floating pal ‘Tippie’, Ittle Dew needs to venture once again into a series of dungeons to obtain pieces of the raft needed to escape the island.

The overworld is separated into different regions, all of which feature their own cast of enemies and environmental hazards as well as a host of optional dungeons with bonuses, collectables and the like, all of which feel fun and  - whilst being familiar switch/light the torch/press buttons in order type – are always a joy to work through and definitely offer a firmer cerebral challenge than the original.

Combat is pretty standard ‘swipe ‘n roll’ but it exists more to add a dash of variety to the overworld and act as extra fodder and parts of various puzzles in the dungeons, which make up the meat of the game.

I’m a big fan of this series of games, the fact that you can either freely wander around and explore (signposts clearly tell you if you don’t have what you need to progress in certain areas, so you never get totally flummoxed), collecting optional clothing and cards etc. or work your way through the dungeons that make up the main quest means that it’s a game you can easily lose a few hours into or just dip in and out due to the tightly designed, pick-up-and-play gameplay.
