🐍 Anguna: Scourge of the Goblin King | A Brand-New Action RPG For The NES! 🐍 @6502Collective #GameDev #IndieGames

Anguna: Scourge of the Goblin King is a brand-new action RPG, or A-RPG, for the original Nintendo (NES). Drawing clear inspiration from classics such as The Legend of Zelda (1987), Anguna also takes inspiration from forgotten games like Deadly Towers (1987).

The player must traverse the world in order to locate the Goblin King, a task that involves collecting items and power-ups along the way. Find ways to cross rivers, navigate rooms of darkness, and get past obstacles in the terrain. Anguna features real-time combat as the nameless hero squares off against lesser enemies and fearsome bosses, and culminates in a final battle with the Goblin King himself!
Anguna: Scourge of the Goblin King was programmed from the ground up in 6502 assembly language by Nathan Tolbert. A long-time programmer, having started making games at eight years old, Anguna: SotGK is his fourteenth released project. It continues the series that he began on the GBA and DS, way back in 2005!

The series has also made an appearance on the Atari 2600. Beyond the Anguna series, Tolbert has released games for the Dreamcast and Android and tinkered with projects for DOS and the Apple II. A lifelong gamer, the Anguna series as a whole got its start during his middle school days, as the world in which his D&D adventures took place.

Anguna: Scourge of the Goblin King is being published by The 6502 Collective, a joint effort between Retrotainment Games (Haunted: Halloween ’85, Haunted: Halloween ’86, Full Quiet) and Sole Goose Productions (Swords and Runes, 0-to-X, Spook-o’-Tron). Their goal is to help support developers in making new games for the NES through publishing and distribution (Rollie, Trophy, Candelabra: Estoscerro), in addition to undertaking commission-based programming projects (The Convention Quest, Zao: Reformat/Reboot, Goofy Foot).
Story:
You awake in a dungeon, captured once again. Yes again; this seems to be your perpetual fate. This time, your quest was to slay the Goblin King, but his henchmen caught up with you before you could plunge your sword into his meaty sides. That was to be expected, it seems since his followers have increased in the wake of acquiring the magic gauntlets of Andron and becoming even more powerful. That's the brakes, though, and you will first have to battle your way out of his dungeon before you can resume your quest to defeat... The Goblin King!

Gameplay:
Anguna: Scourge of the Goblin King features a large overworld and numerous dungeons to explore. In order to reach all areas of the game, the player will need to find a variety of items to help complete the quest. Bomb obstacles, light up the darkness and float across obstacles in this engaging new game for the NES. Enemies and bosses litter the path to the Goblin King, but thankfully weapon and armour upgrades can be obtained. Leave no stone unturned, and keep an eye out for hidden passages along the way.

Anguna: SotGK uses the GTROM mapper, a memory chip made specifically for new NES games by Membler Industries. It provides flash-based memory saving, meaning that saves are not held by a prone-failure battery, or that the reset button needs to be held when powering down the console. It has become a popular choice among NES developers, and has been used in such games as The Incident (KHAN Games), Spook-o'-Tron (Sole Goose Productions), Project Blue (ToggleSwitch & FrankenGraphics), Tailgate Party (Orab Games), and more!
Features:
-A variety of terrain and obstacles
-Five dungeons hidden across a vast overworld
-Many items and power-ups to aid you in your quest
-Over 20 enemies that will try and stop you along the way
  -A fully illustrated bestiary
-Flash saving; no more holding reset when powering off, or batteries that will fail
-An open-ended quest, allowing you to choose your own path!
