🚀🪨 Gleylancer | Advanced Busterhawk | Nintendo Switch | Review | 7/10 | "A No Nonsense Scrolling Shmup!" 🚀🪨 @RatalaikaGames #GameDev #IndieGame #IndieGames #RetroGaming

The Nintendo Switch has become a system choc full of classic shmups oer the years and now it has another cracking release in the form of Gleylancer.

This was a title that I had never come across before and now I have had the chance to play it I'm smitten for its rock hard gameplay and lovely pixel graphics.

Originally released in 1992 Greylancer was exclusive to the Sega Mega Drive, released only in Japan and then made an appearance worldwide on the Wii Console in 2008.

The story follows Lucia, a 16-year-old starfighter pilot in the Earth Federation. A war breaks out between humans and an unknown alien race in the year 2025. Lucia's father, Ken, a high-ranking admiral in the Federation Navy, is captured after his ship is warped out of the combat zone with 4 alien modules which have the ability of teleportation.

Lucia, heartbroken after hearing her father's disappearance, decides to hijack the prototype fighter CSH-01-XA "GleyLancer" with the help of her friend Teim and go after her father.

This turns out to be an absolute classic Shmup with a really cool twist in the gameplay which takes advantage of different turret formations on your ship.

It's a game that definitely doesn't hold your hand at any point and the challenge comes from the first level onwards. The art of learning attack waves and having sharp relexes definitely applies here. My 40+ year old reflexes were tested to their maximum in this cracking title and i'd say that don't lose heart when your ass gets whooped on your 48th go of the first level!

Check out our video below where Rich takes it for a test drive for the first time:
