Clockwork Aquario holds the Guinness World Record title for the longest time between a videogame project start and final release. With the development initially starting in 1991 and then completing in 2021, Clockwork Aquario takes over the mantle from Duke Nukem Forever that held the Guinness World Record title right up until December 2021.

Clockwork Aquario was the last arcade game ever developed by Westone and with the advent of 3D gaming Clockwork Aquario’s development was sadly cancelled.

Now around 30 years later, ININ Games and Strictly Limited Games worked to unearth video gaming gold that was initially consigned to the video games dustbin of time.

A development team that included members of the original Westone team was put together with the aim to bring Clockwork Aquario back to life. The team included Ryuichi Nishizawa who is famously the creator of the legendary Wonder Boy.

Now the scene is set and we finally have this game running on our PS4 is it any good?

The game plays like a classic 90s arcade platformer and has some gorgeous oversized sprites that actually seem a bit big even for the screen at times but once you get used to the lovely large characters then you will immediately fall in love with the look of this colourful vibrant 90s classic in 2021!

You'll need to run, jump, melee and throw things as you make your way through levels of pesky bouncy floaty enemies before facing off against some tasty looking bosses with their own attack patterns. It took me a while to get used to the jump arc for the characters but once you're in the flow you'll be right at home with this cool platformer.

As you progress through the game you'll uncover some cool scenarios as you are asked to take on wackier and wackier enemies that are guaranteed to make you smile as you take on that Robotic Penguin that loves to fight you with eggs!

Once you get going the actual game won't take long to beat as it clocks in around the 25-30 minute mark but that's because this is an Arcade Platformer and that's how long 90s arcade platformers took to complete back in the day. Even though it only takes a half-hour to complete that doesn't mean it's a pushover! This game was built to guzzle credits remember so getting good is a definite requirement!

Out of the 3 characters, you get to choose from I immediately felt an affinity for the robot dude as he looks as cool as hell, so I mainly used him to bop my way to victory.

"Right, I'm Off To pump Some Imaginary Credits Into My PS4 as I Jump and Pop my way through that pesky Flying Fish!"
