The artwork throughout is once again amazing and the writing in this 3rd issue has clearly hit its stride with articles that are not only thought-provoking but also informative and an education for any self-respecting gaming nerd.
Each page is a treat as you get to sample the thoughts of many talented writers that delivered for me an insight into topics that are outside of my gaming knowledge sphere.
This issue leans heavily into the SEGA DREAMCAST early on in the journal. The Dreamcast is a console that passed me by as at the time of its release I was knee-deep in PS1 games (I'm looking at you GTA and PES). After reading the many articles that focus on the Dreamcast I can honestly say that I am now desperate to own a Dreamcast and try some of the legendary games that the contributors talk of.
I particularly enjoyed the article that charts the SEGA NAOMI Arcade timeline versus the Dreamcast as they were basically the same machine which is an absolutely intriguing move by SEGA to bring out a console that was essentially a home arcade machine.
All in all, there are over 50 articles spread across over 200 pages. I read this issue from cover to cover and every page was a marvel of video games goodness with so much to take in.
It’s not just a Dreamcast-centric volume it also covers many other retrospectives and opinion pieces from gaming's recent past and present.
This beautiful piece of writing will consume you for many a night just like it did for me. This issue has been my chosen bedtime reading every night for the last month and I'm glad I took the time to consume every last page.
Once again I can recommend this wonderful journal to anyone who loves gaming as much as I do and if you love the Dreamcast then you’re doubly in luck.
Go and get it now my friends because this is exactly what you need you beautiful nerds!
Right, I’m off to read up on D2 and SEAMAN and begin to fantasise about the crossover video game...
