Dead by Daylight Official Video Game Soundtrack (Volume 2) | Michel. F April

Return to Analog – Purchase Link

When I covered the first volume of Dead by Daylight’s music back in October of last year, I remember being struck by how effective it was at capturing the foreboding, building tension – and subsequent explosive terror of the game itself.

Michel. F April completely nailed the tone, and it made listening through the selections of the soundtrack a perfect horror companion. To celebrate Record Store Day, Canadian label Return to Analog has released volume 2 in the series, capturing more of Michel. F April’s thunderous score for the hugely successful video game.

An RSD Canada exclusive presented on a single clear and white splatter vinyl, this is a limited edition release, of which only 1500 copies exist. The cover – by Filip Ivanovic - features one of the killers of Dead by Daylight, namelessly ‘The Plague’, Adiris the High Priestess of Babylon.

Half-ensconced in shadow, the golden shine of her censer blurs as she swings it from a taloned hand, flitting embers light up her tortured face. The black spine of the record shows that this is RTA-119 in the Return to Analog catalogue of releases, as well as having the title emblazoned in white font.

Moving over to the rear of the release, we can see the main logo for the series on a black background that appears to be flecked by rusty brown colours, giving the impression of a worn film print, a nice touch that hints toward the filmic thrills of the video game. Below the DBD logo is a track listing for the album, as well as the credits.

Opening up the cover revealed to my gleeful self that the record is held in an anti-static, white sleeve (good), and the clear/white splatter vinyl has screaming souls – akin to the four survivors of the game logo – in a close-up, all text and art here is black and white, matching the record perfectly.
