Voyage is a dream-like video game that drops you into a world with little to no introductions and leaves you to work out how to traverse a beautiful world.
Playing Voyage is like being trapped in a watercolour storybook with mystical tinges of story interwoven into the puzzles that will leave you wondering what will come next and what is going on in this world.
My immediate thoughts went to Journey, LIMBO and Brothers: A Tale Of Two Sons when I began playing this intriguing puzzle platformer that leaves you agog with its beauty and the atmosphere that is created through visuals rather than words.
The description of the game sums the premise up perfectly:
"To find their way home, two survivors journey to unravel the mysteries of the past."
Despite the game being on the face of it a platform puzzle game, it's actually more akin to a Walking Simulator as it lets you experience the game in a short time box experience rather than outstaying its welcome by dragging the premise out beyond the 2-hour mark. This leaves you with a really memorable experience that dares to believe in how good it is rather than thinking quantity equals quality. I love it when a game does this and I see it as a positive.
The puzzles in the game are meant to be easily solved and are there to keep you engaged rather than frustrate you and act as a way to progress the journey and the story forwards. The game delivers this experience expertly and you should go into this knowing that there won't be any combine chicken with ant puzzles that would frustrate the hell out of you, it's more a case of move this there and put this here to create a path from A to B which I really click with when I'm looking to play a relaxing game that I can melt away into after a hard days work in the Freezer.
I also enjoyed the music as it conjures up a kooky atmosphere that seems strangely mystical and warm all at the same time whilst also being unnerving.
Throw into the mix that you can play this game in Co-Op mode and you have something that is begging to be experienced by more and more people as this game deserves to be a success.
This game manages to capture you from the start with minimal communication to the player (so much so that I couldn't actually work out what I was meant to do on screen 1!).
Once you get moving you won't stop as the game begs to be played in one sitting and also gives you the opportunity to introduce the game to a friend or significant other by having the option to play a lovely chilled co-op session.
