Terror of Hemasaurus XSX Review 9/10 "The Best Rampage Game Ever Made" 🏨🦖 @LorenLemcke @ShawnDaley #IndieGame #GameDev

I am very much a lover of monster movies and games, and to me, Midway’s Rampage series of games always looked more fun than they actually played. It was a great concept, but it always felt let down by lacklustre gameplay, stiff controls and repetition. Luckily, Loren Lemcke is here to smash down those issues, and breathe fireballs all over those lesser games, standing proudly above the ruins, heaving a throaty roar of triumph into the night sky.

A game with tongue firmly in cheek, Terror of Hemasaurus begins with a news report illustrating the dangers of climate change as a distant ice block clearly containing a massive monster breaks off.

It floats away across the ocean only to be found by The Church of the Holy Lizard. This hilarious cult believes that your monster’s arrival is a sign that they are to force humanity to change its errant ways by destroying cities, eating their own followers, and then setting them on fire….and kicking them up in the air (with the aid of diesel-powered fans, natch). Good.

What follows is a glorious romp through multiple stages – available for up to 4 players – consisting of wanton destruction, with - thankfully - wonderfully tight and responsive controls, with the dial set to FUN, and then kicked off.

Shawn Daley’s energising chiptune music, combined with snazzy pixelated visuals mean that your building-destroying, helicopter-ridin', people-eatin’ forays throughout the USA with be an ever-escalating few hours of solid gold, with a side of genuinely funny narrative and a dollop of social commentary to boot.

Full of cartoonish violence, great chiptune music, tight controls, hilarity, fun challenges and multiple game modes for up to four players, Terror of Hemasaurus is the only arcade-style monster game you need.
