Calmer from Flare "A Game Changer" đŸĻģ👂@flareaudio

I initially came across the Calmer product via a source that I usually pay no attention towards -  Twitter advertising.

However, I’m acutely aware of anything that can assist with my younger brother’s daily issues with certain frequencies triggering incredibly debilitating, migraines (it doesn’t help that I communicate with him exclusively by blowing on a whistle for differing lengths of time - in a language entirely of my own devising, to be honest) and also, with me being the singer/guitarist in a band outside of GF (www.recluse.bandcamp.com), I’m only too aware of the long-term effects of poor ear-care combined with consistent exposure to loud volumes without due preparation.

And so I contacted Flare, who kindly sent out promotional units for us to cover.

I have to say that the results of using Calmer have been quite astonishing.

From the product website:

Calmer® is a life-changing product worn in the ear to gently reduce annoying sounds.

It doesn't block sound or make you feel isolated.

What is Calmer?

Ergonomic, subtle, and practical (also the names of my three pet hamsters), each order of Calmer comes with the product and an accompanying mesh bag in packaging that is 100% recyclable – a nice touch.

They are re-washable, meaning that Calmer aren’t expensive in terms of needing regular replacing etc. and, as I mentioned above - I’ve personally found them to be somewhat of a revelation.

At a show we played recently, I listened to the first couple of tracks of a band we were playing with – a sludge-metal band, so they weren’t exactly quiet - to get my ears warmed up, and then after a song or two, I popped in my Calmer bad boys and the difference was instant.

Gone was the ‘wall of sound’, with slightly indistinguishable instrumentation – to be replaced by a more separated and defined soundscape, with those harsh frequencies removed – I have to clarify that this was a far cry from the ‘muffled’ sound I have gotten from earplugs I’ve tried in the past, and this is due to the ‘funnel’ design of Calmer, which means it’s not a plug in the traditional sense, more of a filter.

It’s not mentioned on the website, but I would also recommend these for vocalists, as they mellow the stage sound whilst also allowing you to hear yourself sing – again, as they are not ‘plugs’ in the standard sense – and this is something that I’ve been after for years as a singer.

Everything was made easier; friends/bandmates shouting in your ear as the band played, ordering drinks at the bar over the cacophony around me – everything had a definition and clarity that just made the evening smoother and more pleasant. I’m also the father of a two-year-old and can absolutely state that popping in Calmers during a tantrum certainly makes things easier.

I’m not a person that suffers from any hearing issues or stresses, but I have found Calmer to be incredibly beneficial in my day-to-day life as a musician and parent, and they are now always with me, as they are so unobtrusive and easy to carry around.

SUMMARY

I’d absolutely recommend trying out Calmer to anyone out there that has an aspect of their lives involving unpleasant frequencies or volumes.

As an aside, my colleague Dr Congo Fighting is also a user, and has been using Flare products for years at gigs and shows, all in all – it’s a big thumbs up from us here at GF!
