DON’T DIE as you assemble a ridiculous arsenal of weapons and desperately hold out against massive hordes of creatures pulled from a variety of classic horror genres reminiscent of 80s and 90s Golden Age comics and B-movies in this stylish action-packed arcade roguelite.

VIDEO REVIEW 👇

Outer Terror on the Nintendo Switch is a delightfully gruesome pulpy roguelike shooter romp that takes you through a set of distorted pixelated nightmare hellscapes inspired by 80s video nasties and the imagery of H.R. Giger

What’s Good About Outer Terror?

  • Outer Terror takes the classic EC horror comic books style and injects it with a dose of gun toting, grenade flinging, machete wielding adrenaline. Which makes you feels like you’re flipping through the pages of a vhs infected blood-soaked graphic horror novel.

  • Each run takes you deep into a fresh nightmare and the objectives are as diverse as the creatures you’ll face.

  • One moment, you’re hunting down a tentacled monstrosity, and the next, you’re deciphering cryptic symbols in a haunted library.

  • The enemy design is a gruesome and twisted menagerie of flesh, teeth, wires and eyeballs. It’s like someone threw a Lovecraftian blender into a meat market and then wrapped some in wires and micro chips.

  • The game is also playable with 10 different characters to choose from and just like in Vampire Survivors your bound to find your favourite after a few trials with each

What’s Not So good?

  • Outer Terror isn’t without its flaws and sometimes the visuals feel as wonky as a zombie on roller skates as you struggle to distinguish between the no go zone and the main play area. But hey, it adds to the charm, right?

  • Initially the in game upgrades don’t feel that much fun but be sure to get yourself into the upgrades menu to add more pizzazz to your armory!

SUMMARY

Outer Terror is like stumbling into a zombie infested arcade at 3 a.m. after you’ve had 10 pints of White Lightning

The retro 80s VHS visuals, the intuitive gameplay, and the comic book atmosphere combine to create a cool Bullet Hell Survival RogueLike

Is it perfect? No. But it’s a gory gory good time.

So grab your shotgun, load up on ammo, and get ready to face the scary unknown. Just remember: the real terror is what lies beyond the pixels.

I give this gory good time a 7/10 as it’s ideal to settle down with for a quick 20 minute run on your Nintendo Switch before you have get back to the boring business of being an adult again.
