Mutant Football League 2 PC Gameplay & Mini Review ๐Ÿ’€๐Ÿˆ๐Ÿ‘น @MutantFootball #IndieGame #GameDev #MutantFootball2

Share This Post On Share to Facebook Share to Twitter Share This Post On

Mutant Football League 2 is like a madcap collision between a football game and a post-apocalyptic circus. Imagine if NFL Blitz and Mad Max had a love child, and that child was raised by loony mutants.

The field is a war zone, with landmines, chainsaws, and zombies lurking.

The quarterback might throw a grenade instead of a pass, and the referee? Well, he’s probably a skeleton. It’s chaos, but it’s hilarious chaos.

The graphics are cartoony, the commentary is fun, and the violence is over-the-top. If you’re tired of regular American football video games, strap on your spiked shoulder pads, grab a shotgun, and dive into this absurdly entertaining mutant mosh pit. Touchdown!

Echo Generation: Midnight Edition Nintendo Switch Review

As a person who eschews the Savalas* and instead prefers movies, I’ve been spared the all-encompassing phenomenon that was Stranger Things and so the following tidal wave of ‘80s-tastic follow-ups very much didn’t pop up on my viewing radar, in fact – it’s been more through reviewing vinyl like the absolutely stunning Kingdom Eighties: Summer of Greed that the wave of ‘kids n’ kooky’ has trickled gently over my feet.

Not that I have an issue with it at all, my point is purely that I’m not burned out on it like I know others are. I am burned out on anime style visuals, however. Voxels - I continue to inhale as much as possible.

CAPES PC Gameplay
Rich samples Capes, a clever and challenging superhero-themed turn-based tactical game, invites players to lead an underdog vigilante squad against supervillains in a dystopian city.

Developed by Prideful Sloth, it wears its comic book inspiration proudly, featuring eight playable characters paying homage to iconic heroes.

Each level unfolds as a tactical puzzle, revealing enemy moves upfront, akin to Into the Breach. With no chance to miss and full information available, players counter foes strategically.

The megalomaniacal supervillains ruling King City add creative boss fight mechanics. While not all characters are memorable, the engaging combat and tongue-in-cheek story make Capes a rewarding superhero adventure.

Originally released on Steam in 2021 and now ported to Nintendo’s little system that could, Dungeon Arsenal is a fun little time-shifter that could have really benefited from a touch more optimisation to be the funky little dip-in-n-out game that it could have been.

Bereft of a narrative beyond ‘get through the floors of the dungeon’, Dungeon Arsenal allows you to choose from a small group of adventurers – each of which feature slightly different boons - and tasks you with making your way as far through the dastardly dungeon as possible.

The Chinese Room were the company that introduced me to the walking simulator genre with their minimalistic and glorious 2012 title Dear Esther. This was followed by a firm favourite of our household in Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs. And so, learning that The Chinese Room were making a game set on a Scottish oil rig in the mid-’70s was enough to make my trousers fly off and fold themselves neatly in a drawer, before definitively slamming it shut.

A few weeks ago, @kingdomofcarts@kingdomofcarts and myself were lucky enough to head up to London from the Welsh branch of GF HQ to catch a three-hour extravaganza celebrating the music of Assassin’s Creed. Originally a show that began in Paris back in 2022, and has been sporadically making its way across Europe, with the folks at Overlook Events behind the magic. The next show is booked on 3rd May 2025, with more shows to be announced.

Heading up on the train, we checked into our hotel – after first checking out the Four Quarters arcade in The Elephant and Castle area of London and clocking back a couple of cocktails – and warmed up by blasting some of the Assassin’s Creed soundtrack as we got dressed in our hooded robes, tested our hidden blades, and did full-back tattoos on each other of Jesper Kyd’s visage.

Sociable Soccer 24 | Nintendo Switch Review 7/10 "Sociable Soccer 24 isn't a serious soccer sim—it's a joyful, pixelated carnival ride." ⚽️ @Sociable_Soccer #IndieGame #GameDev

Share This Post On Share to Facebook Share to Twitter Share This Post On

Sociable Soccer 24 Nintendo Switch Review
Ah, Sociable Soccer 24, the game that struts onto the pitch with all the subtlety of a neon-clad goalkeeper doing the running man.

Developed by Tower Studios, this is a wild carnival ride aiming to bring back the golden era of 90s footie gaming by lacing up those oversized boots, grabbing a nearby rattle and diving into the soccer fuelled chaos.

The gameplay loop in Sociable Soccer 24 is like a sugar rush after a 500ml can of Virgin Cola. It's fast, frantic, and utterly addictive. The controls are as simple as a two-button pass, but don't let that fool you. The game rewards timing and positioning with a dash of sheer luck. Once you get used to the passing mechanic you'll find yourself chaining passes together and scoring screamers with the glee of a kid who just discovered a hidden stash of cola cubes. It's like the '90s arcade soccer games never left us—only now, they've got a fresh coat of neon paint.

When you score, the game erupts into a pixelated fiesta. Players cartwheel, moonwalk, and even breakdance. It's like a discotheque invaded the penalty box. I half-expected a pixelated MC HAMMER to strut in with baggy trousers and point at the goal.

Now, here's the secret sauce: crank up the difficulty. The lower levels are as challenging as a Sunday kick about with your nan. But slide that difficulty slider to the right, and suddenly, you're facing AI opponents who channel their inner Messi. It's like playing chess against a caffeinated octopus. Trust me, it's where the real magic and challenge happens.

I love a good stat. But unfortunately Sociable Soccer 24 doesn’t give me much to work with. I’d like to see some player ratings, top scorer charts, league tables, heat maps, and a breakdown of my striker's biscuit consumption during halftime.

The refs in this game are like a box of chocolates—you never know what you're gonna get. One moment, they're waving play on as your defender performs a flying karate kick. The next, they're brandishing a red card because your goalie sneezed. Consistency? Nah, we're too busy breakdancing.

I appreciate the retro vibe, but I need more than one stadium type. It's like playing every match at Loftus Road. Give me a stadium with a giant kop at one end and some open corners, and I'll be happy.

SUMMARY

Sociable Soccer 24 isn't a serious soccer sim—it's a joyful, pixelated carnival ride. It's the spiritual cousin of Sensible Soccer, high-fiving it across the decades.

It’s also impressive how much this game has come along since I played it in its first incarnation a few years back.

So grab your joystick (yes, I said joystick), crank up the difficulty, and let the nostalgia wash over you. Just remember: stats are for nerds, celebrations are for legends, and the '90s never really left us.

Star Wars: Battlefront Collection Xbox Series X Review
There are two things I have a deep hatred for that are part of a lot of childhoods, and they are E.T, and Wookiees. Now, I won’t go into why I hate Mr Extra Terrestrial, but Wookiees are related directly with Battlefront 2, as a kid I loved these games, my friend and I played them for hours and hours - they are highlights of my childhood, but one memory sticks out and that's the time - whilst fighting a particularly tough battle - it came down to 10 vs 8, our team finally had the lead after replaying this missions several times, and victory was finally in sight! I had a fool-proof plan to win… get in a ship and take the enemy down from the skies. As I made my run to the ship, a Wookiee ran from the other side, entered the ship, and then flew it straight into the landing bay door destroying not just himself and the ship but also my hopes and dreams. As I stood in the landing bay filled with hate and disappointment, the enemy overturned the deficit and won. That moment changed me, I became a different person… I was now... a Wookiee hater.

Little Kitty, Big City XSX Review
It’s an interesting time in our household, as we have a three year old son who is just getting his feet wet in terms of gaming. I always keep an eye out for suitable releases to enjoy with him, and when we received the press release for Little Kitty, Big City, my dad-gaming eyes lit up. What we ended up enjoying was a wonderfully cute, fun game that wasn’t without its flaws, but the charm and family factor shines through, meaning that you’ll have a great time if you approach little Kitty, Big City with an open and curious mind...much like a kitten, in fact.

Little Kitty, Big City begins as very much a story of highs and lows, there you are – sunning yourself on your owner’s balcony when disaster strikes and you find yourself falling to street level, many floors below. Your quest? To get back to your favourite napping spot!

Skeler Boy Nintendo Switch Review
Skeler Boy comes at us from Maniac Boy Studio, a Spanish studio that certainly know how to create a great-looking, atmospheric world, but lose some lustre due to a poor translation and some seemingly hurried concepts.

The titular Skeler is a young man searching for his missing girlfriend, Megan. Set purely at night, Skeler roams the city and surrounding locations in a bid to get to the bottom of what has happened to his girlfriend as he swirls further and further into a vortex of - possible – madness. It’s a simple and yet robust premise for some good old-fashioned creepiness in this top-down pixel adventure.

The vast majority of the gameplay comes from discovering ways to move past certain obstacles, such as locating wire cutters for a fence, or working out how to get access to a boat to cross a river etc. the pacing is pretty solid, and the adventure will only take a couple of hours to see through to the end.

The Next Dragon Age Video Game (Formerly Known As Dreadwolf) Has A New Name! ⚔️

Share This Post On Share to Facebook Share to Twitter Share This Post On

Dragon Age The Veilguard
BioWare Studio’s General Manager and Executive Producer on Dragon Age, Gary McKay, published a blog post this morning sharing some new news around the next Dragon Age game - which has a new name.

In the blog, Gary reveals the new title Dragon Age: The Veilguard and provides background and context on their decision to change the name.

Each of the seven unique characters that make up your companions will have deep and compelling storylines where the decisions you make will impact your relationships with them – as well as their lives.

You’ll unite this team of unforgettable heroes as you take on a terrifying new threat unleashed on the world. Naturally, the Dread Wolf still has an important part in this tale, but you and your companions – not your enemies – are the heart of this new experience.

So, to capture what this game is all about, we changed the name as the original title didn’t show just how strongly we feel about our new heroes, their stories and how you’ll need to bring them together to save all of Thedas.”

We proudly introduce to you Dragon Age™: The Veilguard.

Also, as promised on Dragon Age day last year, the team at BioWare has also set the date for the official gameplay reveal for Dragon Age: The Veilguard on June 11 at 8:00 am PT at the at the Dragon Age YouTube channel where they’ll be showcasing 15 minutes of gameplay from the opening moments of the game.

Coffee Talk EP.2 – Official Soundtrack Vinyl Review
Having played – and enjoyed – the Coffee Talk games on Switch, I was excited to get the chance to really delve into the soundtrack, as I’m a big fan of hypnotic, trip-hop music – and the music was such a big part of Coffee Talk, enriching the atmosphere off the game without being intrusive or too abstract.

The nascent (well, to me at least!) ‘cosy’ genre revels in acting as a digital hug to its fans, and the music of Coffee Talk excels at this. It also arrived at a great time for me personally, as it was quite a stressful time related to family illness, and I’d had trouble settling on something to listen to as I worked, in my then-current state of mind my usual podcasts seemed irritating, familiar music grated on me, and I lacked the energy to seek out fresh sounds.

And so, when Coffee Talk Ep.2 arrived, it was a balm to my ears and mind, turning out to be exactly what I needed.
