Back in November 2023 I covered the first title in the ‘Murder is Game Over’ series, a fun title created in RPG Maker that puts you in the shoes of Detective Guy and his trusty canine sidekick Cleo as they work together to solve the murder of the eccentric video game designer ‘Lord’ Russell Gallant.

It’s a title that can be completed in a couple of hours, but the blend of basic fact-finding and breezy investigative work – bulked up a dog-treat collecting mini-game – made for a light evening of easy, crime-solving fun.

This second chapter again joins Guy and Cleo as they try to solve the murder of an internet celebrity in the world of streaming (hence the pun-ishing title) in a small coastal town cloaked in a mysterious history.

This – the second game in the series – is a slightly tighter experience than the original in terms of the narrative, but it maintains the same light-hearted charm, with a creepiness that feels Scooby-Doo-ish in terms of mood that works perfectly in tandem with the straightforward gameplay.

Mixing things up by featuring a handful of chase sequences, HitherYon Games’ brand of bite-size detective experiences are great fun and make for a good night in! It also feels more at home on the Switch, due to the portability, I mean – is there anything more satisfying than solving a murder whilst curled up in bed? A series I hope to see a lot more of in the future!
