5 Things You Should Try Playing After Baldur's Gate 3 🎲

As it is one of the top games of 2023, a lot of people have been left with the craving for more of Larian’s roleplaying magnum opus, Baldur’s Gate 3. However, if you’ve already done just about every playthrough you can think of, you might find yourself wanting to look outside of it for more like it. Thankfully, there is a pretty vast world of roleplaying games out there, many of which are worth a closer look.

Divinity: Original Sin II

Larian’s other big game and their breakout hit, Divinity has a lot of the same care put into its combat and adventure mechanics. It’s not quite as well polished as Baldur’s Gate, but it does allow for a lot of flexibility. What’s more, it has a really neat elemental interaction system that very often sees entire battlefields on fire, which is always amusing at the very least.

Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous

Another of the more traditionally styled RPGs, Pathfinder is based on the tabletop roleplaying game of the same name. Based on a different system as it is, there are quite a few differences in how it plays, but it still offers excellent roleplaying opportunities with a cool army strategy layer added in the later game.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard

Although it’s a very different kind of game, being more of an action RPG than straight-up turn-based fare, the latest Dragon Age game is the place you’re going to find the fantasy adventuring tropes in their most polished and gorgeous-looking form as of late. What’s more, the series as a whole puts a real focus on the roleplaying side of things, with a lot of time put into creating parties and personalities that you genuinely learn to care a lot for throughout your journey.

Dungeons & Dragons (The TTRPG)

One of the best things about Baldur’s Gate 3 is how effectively it emulates the feeling of playing real D&D. So, what better way to follow it up than by finding some players to play with? Whether you pick up the supplies you need from Dice Goblin to host a game at a table or hop on Roll20 to play over the internet, there’s really nothing quite like the real thing. With D&D, your imagination really is the limit, and there’s endless flexibility to play time after time, in new campaigns, with new characters, and even new friends.

The Other D&D Games

If you want to stay inside the world of D&D but prefer your adventures to be digital, the series has no shortage of games that have been released over the years. There is, of course, Baldur’s Gate 1 and 2, which is decidedly more lo-fi, not to mention having a more active combat system rather than being turn-based. However, there are plenty of other highlights, like the Dark Alliance games, Neverwinter Nights 1 & 2, and much more. There’s even the Capcom beat ‘em ups for a more anime-styled action approach to the world.

There are many more that we didn’t cover here that are just as worth recommending, like Tyranny, Pillars of Eternity, Planescape Torment, and so on. Needless to say, there’s plenty of food for those with a hunger for more epic fantasy adventures.
