Transvaal's Top 5 Games of the Year 2024 "Games so good that they dragged my butt back into gaming" 🗓️🎮 #GOTY

2024 has personally been a weird year for me when it comes to gaming, I’ve gamed steadily from the age of 3 years old and for 30 years it has been one of my main hobbies...until this year, when I started with a real lack of motivation to game that even now still lingers.

It’s a weirdly odd feeling, to lose something you’ve always enjoyed.

Luckily for me, I’m not just fighting my mind, my body has jumped in and for the last two months I have developed a problem in my hands that makes even holding a controller painful…

So these 5 games aren't just my games of the year, they are games so good that they dragged my butt back into gaming.

5-Total Extreme Wrestling IX

This has been a revelation for me this year, I have loved WWE games’ GM Mode (General Manager Mode) for a long time, and I thought that this was the only way that you could play that type of wrestling Sim. Yes, I’m obviously too stupid to have just Googled to see if there were other wrestling simulations about.

I had so much fun with this game; building a fed, making TV deals, booking cards, etc. it is amazing and definitely a must for wrestling fans.

4-Persona 3 Reload

Oh, hello Atlus, I wonder if this will be your only entry on this list... Even if it was, it would be a worthy one. This was such an amazing experience for me, Persona 3 was the first Persona game I ever played, and getting to experience that feeling again brought me so much joy and was the first game to give me that itch this year.

Great combat, a fantastic story, and characters that I love - this game remains a highlight of the year.

3-Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

Another remake of a popular JRPG back to back… the question that really needs to be answered is, “Would I have put this on my list for just Queens Blood alone?” and the answer is… yes, I would have 100 percent put it on here for that alone, it’s the best new card mini-game since Gwent, I love it so much, and yeah the rest of the game is amazing as well, a great continuation that has built upon the first part and made me super excited to play part 3.

Queens Blood is so brilliant though, oh god I have to move on and stop talking about it.

2-Home Safety Hotline

I mentioned my knackered hands at the start because, even though I have to take pain killers to use them - this game is absolutely worth having to take them for. I almost wish that my number one game wasn't out so I could give it to this, I love this game so much, it is one of my favourite gaming experiences of all time, the concept is superb and different, it is beyond well-executed and it made me feel an emotion I have never had in any other game...Guilt.

I have nothing negative to say about it, you should play it especially if you are a horror fan, IT IS BRILLIANT.

1-Metaphor: ReFantazio

The easiest game to spell on my list comes in at my number one, it is without shadow of a doubt not only my top game of the year but one of my all-time favourites. I’m just going to give it ‘game of the decade’ and I’ll wait to see what the 2030’s bring.

Within hours I knew it would be here, it brings everything that I love about - not only - Persona but the whole JRPG genre and perfects them. Characters and a story that I fell head over heels for. This is the game released in a year in which I didn’t really want to game at all, made me pump hour after hour into. It is special, it is my game of the year and for now sits as my game of the 2020’s.

But honestly Queens Blood is amazing, such a great addition to the mini-game pantheon.

Out of nowhere they just create another amazing card game.

Right, I will really stop talking about it now.
