Why I Love The Games Master TV Show 🕹️ #RetroGaming

Games Master TV Show Episode Guide Season 1-7I grew up in the '80s and 90's so I was the perfect age for Games Master when it first aired on a cold and wet Tuesday in January 1992. I was at Secondary School and video games plus football is what I obsessed over.

In 1992 I also owned my favourite video games console of all time, the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. To say I was the target audience for the show would be an understatement!

When episodes aired during the week on Channel 4 in the UK they were the talk of the playground the next day at school and boy did we talk about these episodes a lot. I used to tape every episode onto a blank VHS and watch it back over and over again.

At the time I think the novelty was that a TV channel was showing Video Games on TV in a semi serious way! Those 20 minutes of Video Games on TV each week were like a national recognition of my second favourite hobby, video games.

Granted, at the time I am pretty sure me and my mates used to take the mickey out of some of the features like the Consoletation Zone as it seemed like most participants were clearly reading from a script. We'd also question the Reviews section too with some scores baffling us all, but the main draw for me and my mates were the challenges set by Games Master (Sir Patrick Moore).

Recently I had stumbled across a cool interview with Dominik Diamond and it made me feel VERY nostalgic for those cold winter nights gathering round my 14 Inch CRT in the 90s and tuning into Channel for another dose of Video Gaming Goodness!

I duly promised myself that I would commit to watching EVRY single episode again and creating a feature from the fun that I have had re watching this seminal piece of British gaming Culture.

So here is my feature. I have watched all the episodes of each series/season and noted down some key facts for each episode related to:

  • Episode Details (Date, Episode, Presenter)
  • Challenge Details
  • Review Details
  • Weekly Feature
  • Consoletation Zone
  • Dominik's Closing Remark

Why did I do this? Well I think I just wanted to create a single space on our wonderful website that I can always nip back to and reference what happened in each episode!

I also wanted to create a high level set of stats associated with each season and totting up how many Golden Joystsicks were given out in total (the golden joystick being the coveted prize for completing a challenge successfully)

So, grab your smoking jacket, sit back and relax with a cammomile tea amd come with me down Games Master Memory Lane.

This is the playlist I used to watch the episodes. If someone was to release a physical Blu Ray of the episodes I would snap it up immediately!
