The young nephew of a recently departed uncle, the protagonist has been tasked with locating the 46th room deep in the heart of a sprawling mansion that resets its rooms each day.
This is a game that will absolutely be a GOTY for many, many people in 2025 – very much a huge recommendation from us here at GF and absolutely deserving of our rare 10/10 rating.
The setup and premise – as well as the future revelations and key moments - are delivered perfectly, with every aspect of the game seeming a perfect fit with the other. For example, the rich, graphic-novel style visuals dovetail with the lilting, curious audio in a way that really pulls you into the game as you delve further and further into the mansion, collecting coins, jewels and more incremental permanent unlockables as you do so.
Every room and lore piece is a mystery of its own that ties into the grand reveal, and it’s compulsive to discover each titbit as it unfolds, and tie together the history of the family, mansion staff, and the ultimate mystery of the mansion itself.
Each run through the house will allow you to draft different locations dependent on the overall pool of rooms you’ve unlocked tied in with the natural random factor – a factor that can be altered in certain circumstances.
This is one of those games that is best discovered by the player, so I’ll be as vague as I can with regard to the mechanics and story, all you need to know is that this is one of the best games ever made, that ties a rogue-lite vibe to a puzzle narrative in the best ways possible.
It’s an incredibly satisfying experience to discover more about the mansion, and make progress. As each day resets, your mind whizzes with possibilities as you mentally lay out the groundwork for the sequence of events needed to gets your hands on more possible rooms , ever closer to that grand prize of the 46th room.
