As I sit here and wait for him to get back to me I fear for his safety on his first night in the unknown wilderness.....

He got in contact with me on my iPhone on Thursday morning and told me his story via text....

His name is Taylor...

He asked me for advice on how to proceed...

He wanted to know what to do next....

I had to put myself in Taylor's shoes and think what would I do next if I was Taylor?

I've just advised him on where he should sleep on his first night stranded alone.....I hope I've told him the right thing....I've never been in that situation so I don't know what to advise but I did advise him on what I thought was truly his best option....

I keep checking my phone to see if he has got in contact with me but nothing yet....

Oh god I hope he makes it through the night......What if he doesn't?!

I'm constantly looking for a game on Android that I can lose myself in for hours on end. It's been a quest for me since I was given my Nexus 7 for Christmas a couple of years back.

The thing is, it's pretty rare to find an Android game that can actually consume me for more than a few sittings.

So far the only games that I have truly immersed myself in on Android are:

  • The Walking Dead Season 1&2

&

  • Limbo

Until now that is……………….

A couple of years back I played the demo of Limbo and fell for it's atmosphere, lead character and devious puzzles that I had the opportunity to play.

The demo let me play up until the infamous spider puzzle and then teased you by telling you that to continue playing you had to buy the full game.

I resolved to buy the game at my earliest convenience…..

☆ Do Involving Story Driven Games Exist On Android? ☆ #GamersUnite #Android

Games Freezer

For a long time I have been skeptical of most mobile games.

In my experience they tended to be good for a quick fix of commuter gaming but not necessarily something that will engross you and pull you in with high production values and engrossing story-line.

I have yearned for a game like Fallout to be converted to Android in order that I could undertake an epic quest on my mobile gaming platform of choice, Android.

For the last couple of years The Walking Dead video game has picked up multiple awards as it was released across multiple platforms.

From afar I have admired The Walking Dead video game premise but never quite got round to playing the game….

Then in April this year The Walking Dead was released for Android and the first episode was FREE…..

At this point I downloaded it onto my Nexus thinking that it was going to be an inferior experience to the console & PC versions but hey it was FREE so worth a punt….

Inferior??? OH HOW WRONG WAS I !!

☆Have You played Make It Rain?☆ @SpaceInch #GamersUnite #MakeItRain

Share This Post On Share to Facebook Share to Twitter Share This Post On

I don't usually go for the latest craze in mobile gaming as it's usually shovelware or a 2 minute fad of gaming hyped up by the press and pushed in peoples faces for 2 weeks only to disappear and never be seen again

(or in Flappy Bird's Case, to disappear and magically reappear in a few months time after everyone has been convinced that their video gaming life is missing some kind of badly executed flying mechanic)

Anyway, then along came "Make It Rain"…….

I picked up on this game while sifting through my Google Alerts and somehow it found it's way into the Retro Gamer alert…Hmmmm???

Upon reading the article, I dismissed the game and carried on sifting.

Then after searching video games news on Google I stumbled across "Make It Rain" AGAIN…..

This time it was an article on how it is making $50k a day.

It's at this point that I took notice of this so called phenomenon and I proceeded to download "MAKE IT RAIN" from the Google Play Store....

My day was about to be taken over over by £ signs!

☆"Classic Amiga Version Of Defender Of The Crown Comes To Android"☆ @Cinemaware #Android #retrogaming #GamersUnite

Defender Of The Crown, Retrogmaing, Retro Gamer

We are big fans of the CinemaWare Video Games releases in the mid to late 80's.

Cinemaware brought atmospheric cinema-like video games to all manner of systems but the releases we remember most were those on the Commodore Amiga.

Such video games as IT Came From The Desert, King Of Chicago and todays featured video game Defender Of The Crown!

The Cinemaware games took their video games inspiration from the movies and Defender Of The Crown does so in the form of the classic swashbuckling movies such as Robin Hood (Good Old R.H Even Features In Game!)

Defender Of The Crown was the Elder Scrolls of it's time and set new standards in video games graphics and involving gameplay

So how have Cinemaware ported this beauty of a Video Game over to Android then?

★Games Freezer Guide To SNES Emulation★ #RetroGaming #GamersUnite

Share This Post On Share to Facebook Share to Twitter Share This Post On

Super Nintendo, RetroGaming

Emulation is a touchy subject for us Retrogaming folk….

Some people don't believe in it as there's nothing quite like playing the real thing.

The feel of the cartridges, the native joypad and the beautiful hardware.

But then there is a point when Retrogaming using the original hardware may not be practical for some due to a lack of space or even a lack of funds.

So this is where the emulator earns its crust.

RetroGaming

Which Emulator?

Inspired by BOXED PIXELS We wanted to play SNES games on the go.

So we used Google Play to search out the best of the emulators that could be used on our Android devices.

First Up was ......

The Super GNES offering looked like the slickest emulator around and it also comes at a price.....£2.49 to be exact

Here's A Lovely List Of Features For Super GNES

★ Auto-detects games and displays cover art

★ Thousands of cheats (Pro Action Replay™, Game Genie™)

★ Dropbox cloud syncing support for continuous play across devices

★ Visual effect shaders (CRT Simulator, High Quality 2x/3x, and more)

★ Excellent support for external controllers including Moga/Pro, Zeemote and iCade 8-bitty

★ Mouse support for games like Mario Paint

★ Network multiplayer using WiFi or Bluetooth

★ Advanced layout editor for on-screen controls

★ In-game GameFAQs™ integration

★ Turbo mode to fast-forward games

★ Ultra-fast SuperFX, SA1 and DSP chipset support

★ Support for SMC, FIG, SFC, ZIP, and 7z formats

Next Up Was......

SNES 9X EX is a more basic emulator compared to Super GNES but we found that it does just as good a job, so we liked it AND it's FREE...

And Finally.......

SNES Droid is another variation on the SNES9X Emulator and again this little beauty does a great job....

Out of the three emulators above we chose SNES 9X EX because it was the easiest to use and it enabled us to quickly set up our external controller (we'll talk about that in a moment)

ROMS

So now we had our emulator sorted, it was time to search for some ROMS
The whole idea behind this exercise was to see if we could set up an emulator to play SNES Games on the go and in particular play some Games that we'd never got round to playing.

So the ROM search began.................

The first port of call was COOL ROM

Cool Rom is vast, it seems to have literally every game you have ever heard of.

We were obviously looking at the SNES list and it was as comprehensive as it could get.

Next up was FREE ROMS. Again another site chock full of all the games you could wish for on the SNES.

Our final website that we perused was ROM Hustler and again we found a mass of games waiting for us and we especially liked the console history part that was sourced from Console Database.

Take your pick from the above as they all do the same things,
but COOL ROM.COM is of the most utilised and popular sites, so we recommend COOL ROM.

Controller Options

As a default you get the on-screen controls with the Android Emulators.

We found these to be tough to cope with and losing the physicality of a controller meant that there was only ever one option for us, we needed to set up an actual controller to be utilised with our emulator.

We had a PS2 Controller (Dual Shock 2) hanging about in the Freezer so we set about trying to work out how we could utilise that in our emulator rig....

First thing we purchased off of eBay was something called an OTG USB Cable for our Nexus 7

This cable enables USB connection to take place onto your device.

Then we dug out an old PSX USB Adapter that enabled us to plug our lovely PS2 Controller into our Nexus 7

FINAL SET UP

So now we had completed our setup.

We have the following:
  1. Nexus 7
  2. Running SNES 9X EX
  3. Utilising COOL ROMS
  4. A PS2 Controller connected via an OTG USB CABLE and a PSX USB Adapter
Our Frankenstein System Is Created!!!

We'll let you know exactly how we get on with emulation over the next few months....

Have you tried emulation?

What's Your Experiences of it?

Let Us Know....

☆Game Of The Day "Badland"☆ @BadLandGame #Android #GamersUnite

Share This Post On Share to Facebook Share to Twitter Share This Post On

During the holiday season the usual gaming devices were put to rest for a while as we searched for our gaming thrills through our newly acquired GOOGLE NEXUS 7.
Using this cool device has shone new light on the Google Play Games selection for us as the Nexus 7 is optimised perfectly to play the coolest games available on the market.
The game that has taken up most of our time this festive season is the Wonderful Badland...

We might be a little late to the party on this one as it's been about for a while now...

Anyways, let's attempt to explain to you what it's all about......
.
Well let's start with how it all begins........
You are spat out of an industrial waste pipe of some sorts quite abruptly and there you are seemingly stranded an inhospitable forestry type environment that looks full of nasties and beady watching eyes.....
Immediately you are drawn in by the game's incredibly foreboding atmosphere....

The game puts you slightly on edge from moment one. We recommend plugging some earphones in and fully appreciating the subtle sound effects that really draw you in to the situation...
So what is actually going on here?
Well it seems as though you are some kind of hedgehog like creature that can sort of fly (badly) and its down to you to guide this poor unfortunate creature through the treacherous environment!
And Boy is this a treacherous environment!!

Make no mistake, every route is paved with traps and dastardly fiendish little puzzles.
It reminds us of a cross between Limbo and Sonic The Hedgehog. Some levels are played at a blistering pace and others are a struggle against the environment which really gets your pace racing!
By pressing the screen you make your HedgeHogBird Thingy fly forwards and by releasing the screen you fall lower. A nice and simple game mechanic used to great effect.

Scattered around each level are various "power ups" / "power downs" that help or hinder your progress through the level.

These consist of the following:

There's an orb that Clones your fuzzy dude and this pack of fuzzy dudes increases your chances of surviving the environmental onslaught!

There's an orb that makes you Grow Larger which can help or hinder you. It will help if you need to break through certain parts of the level or hinder you if space is tight.

There's also an orb that makes you Smaller and then smaller still so you can squeeze through the tiniest spaces!

The "Jelly Orb" turns you into a bouncy ball jelly style fuzzy dude that will struggle to progress if you hit the sides too many sides as you frantically try and bounce through the level.

Overall we absolutely love this game as it draws you in and gives you something more than your average Endless Runner type game. It's a runner with brains and character like no other.

That's why we will award it a GAMESFREEZER FROZEN DELIGHT :

1. The measure of the total power of electromagnetic radiation (including infrared, ultraviolet, and visible light). The power may be the total emitted from a source, or the total landing on a particular surface.

Sometimes when you have downloaded  a game to your mobile and open it up you can tell immediately that you are going to enjoy it, Solar Flux is one of those games.

From that important first impression of the title screen it sets a tone and an atmosphere that feels perfect for this unique Space Puzzle Game by Firebrand Games.

Heroes Of Steel - The Latest Title From Trese Brothers

Heroes of Steel is a work in progress game that came out of our successful KickStarter, and the 5th game by Trese Brothers!

The Trese Brothers have pulled together a cracking set of Games for Android devices and their latest release Heroes of Steel has really caught our eye!

The Trese Brothers were looking to create an epic turn-based mobile fantasy RPG and came up with Heroes Of Steel concept.

It's a squad-based tactical role-playing game set in the World of Steel.

The Trese Brothers were looking to create a game that is deeper than your average Android game by really engaging the player in the Game World and the Game System.

Combat In Action!
Heroes Of Steel has actually come about due to a successfully funded Kickstarter Campaign.

Even though the KickStarter has closed, if you are interested in helping to fund the Heroes of Steel project, you can still join by pledging at the PayPal backers’ page.

You can also Keep up to date with the latest Heroes of Steel development progress on the Trese Brothers YouTube channel.

Heroes of Steel will be released on the Android, OUYA, and iOS devices because of achieving it's stretch goals through the Kickstarter campaign!

Heroes Of Steel also be shipped with eight character classes, and a map of the complicated underground world of Steel.

One of the most exciting things about this game is the level of character depth that will allow for 16 valid group combinations.

This really gives the game a depth rarely seen on the Android platform.

If you want to stay connected with the KickStarter progress, join the Trese Brothers Facebook page

Meanwhile here's a short Bio on the Trese Brothers in their own words:

"Cory and Andrew are two brothers who have spent their lives together making games.

We were always the first player in each other's games from a very early age, and started home-brewing systems before we knew what the term meant.

We've spent countless hours creating of pen and paper games, stories and campaigns to share with our friends around the table.

In mid-2010, Cory picked up an Android and started tinkering with a game idea he had in his favourite genre, space trading games.

And so Star Traders was born.

It was not long before we realized how powerful of a platform mobile gaming was to share our ideas, stories, and worlds with a larger audience.

Over the last three years, we have built four games and run one successful KickStarter to build our fifth [Heroes Of Steel]

We have updated these games hundreds of times with new content, story, characters, upgraded artwork, maps and sub-plots.

We are extremely dedicated to our customers, listening to them, and making our games better with them.

We love our games, and we play them every day.

We believe we run a pretty unique business model and we love what we do with a major passion.

We are very excited to have recently announced that we have transitioned to full time game development, both of us leaving full time software engineering positions.  So, its working!

We hope you will join us by trying out one or more of our games and seeing them grow every week!"

Let us know what you think of the cool selection of Android Games By The Trese Brothers....

Games Freezer - FREE Access To Development Suite @Project_Anarchy

Share This Post On Share to Facebook Share to Twitter Share This Post On
Project Anarchy The Free Games Development Tool

GamesFreezer spotted some great news about something called "Project Anarchy" recently and we decided to investigate further.

Project Anarchy is giving Free Access to development suite for budding Games Developers who wish to publish games on iOS or Android.

The development suite is a complete end to end game engine and state-of-the-art tool set for mobile gaming.

The whole concept is based around a busy game development community centred at www.projectanarchy.com

What is so cool about this concept is that it includes an entirely FREE license to ship your game on iOS, Android and Tizen platforms.

In order to ensure Project Anarchy is free for iOS, Android and Tizen they encourage developers who use it to become part of the bustling  community and add value to the community in order to ensure its a great place to make games.

Secondly they ask for the opportunity to do some marketing with developers when it comes to releasing the game, which is no bad thing as far as we can see.

Thirdly, if you have created a game targeting Android platform that you plan to upload to an app store, the FREE license requires that you build an equivalent x86-compatible version of the game and upload it alongside any other versions that you have built (apparently building this x86 is pretty straightforward)

All of this sounds pretty reasonable to us for the FREE use of the Project Anarchy development suite of tools.

Take a trip to projectanarchy.com and get involved with this great new concept that could well enable you to create the game of your dreams!

Are you interested in taking advantage of this great piece of kit?

What game would you create using the Project anarchy Tool Set?

Electronic Super Joy

We stumbled across "Electronic Super Joy" after following Michael Todd on Twitter.

After watching the hypnotic video and listening to the thumping soundtrack, this game is well and truly in the Freezer!

The visuals are simple yet intricate, the design is intriguing and the gameplay looks frenetic yet calming.

We love the look of this game as it looks like a tough as old boots platformer with bags of character.

There's some great phrases that pop up on screen as you advance that seem to be quite abstract but fit in with the overall feel of the demo.

We can't wait to play this..........

and guess what.... it will be available on PC MAC LINUX iPAD and ANDROID

The Website says Coming 2013 ........ when? When!? WHEN!!!!???

Is this your kind of Game?

Games Freezer - The Not Very Current TOP 5 List of the Video Games Of 2013 So Far....

Share This Post On Share to Facebook Share to Twitter Share This Post On

The Most Amazing Box Of Games Since Metal Gear Solid Got Stuck In Our ICE BOX!

The Games Freezer Top 5 Video Games List of 2013....So Far

As we near the middle of 2013 we have started to compile a list of the games we have been playing so far in 2013.
It's a list that we have compiled ONLY using games that we have actually played this year and they wont necessarily will have been released this year either.
So here goes.....

  1. The Orange Box (X360)

This collection of games is a masterpiece of gaming.
It includes the Daddy of First Person Shooters (3 episodes) , the Daddy of Multiplayer along with the most innovative puzzler in years!
We managed to pick this up second hand for £10.
Five amazing games for £10....if you havn't already done so BUY IT NOW!

  2. Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (X360)

Being a massive fan of open world RPG's we had been meaning to invest in this game for an absolute age!

Then one day whilst sifting through the bargain bucket in Blockbuster, there it was for £12, so we began to invest a few hours, days and weeks (and counting) into this mammoth game.

It's a top quality game that still looks fresh after 5 years.
The levelling up of enemies in line with your level is rather annoying however, the game in general is a triumph....Try it you will love it

  3. Super Stickman Golf (Android/iOS)

We were finding that there was a distinct lack of good golf games on the Android platform and then along came the iPhone smash hit Super Stickman Golf which as much a puzzle game as it is a golf game.

With Par 10 holes on some courses its a game that doesn't take itself seriously, but shouldn't be overlooked in any way as it grips you with its mix of tactics and good fun.

The power ups are brilliant and are unlocked as you progress. We paid 69p for it and it brightens up the commute into work every morning....A Great Mobile Game

(also watch out for Super Stickman Golf 2)

  4. FIFA 12 (PS3)

We hadn't invested our hard earned cash into a footy title since PES became rubbish about 5 years ago, then we played an old copy of FIFA 11 around a friends house this year and thought hang on, THIS IS FUN!!

So as soon as FIFA 12 hit the bargain buckets we bought it and loved it immediately.

Lots has been written about this game and the EA way of minor updates to the game each year rather than genuinely improving the game.

In this version, the developers put their neck on the line slightly by changing the defending to a much tougher system and even though it takes a while to get used to, its made the game more of a challenge, so much so that you genuinely celebrate each goal you score out loud!! (or is that just me?!)

You never know, we like the game so much, we might actually buy the latest version! (second hand of course)

    5. Heavy Rain (PS3)

Wow! What a game, like nothing you have ever played before.
From the start you are put into a situation that is quite alien to most gamers, you are asked to brush your characters teeth and then get them into the shower, from here on in your character's life spirals out of control and thrusts you into a world where nothing seems as it is.
You get to play as various characters through the plot and it genuinely throws up a massive twist in the story late on.While not without its niggly parts, it is truly a genuine advancement in computer games and what we perceive them to be

So, there it is, not a very current but a very enjoyable Top 5!
Have a think about your top games of 2013 so far....
Let us know your current or not so current faves of 2013

UNTIL NEXT TIME......TRY NOT TO GET LOCKED IN THE GAMES FREEZER*!
