Aladdin on the Sega Master System | Video Gaming Memories by Imraan Nazir 🎮 🧞 #RetroGaming #SuperNintendo

Share This Post On Share to Facebook Share to Twitter Share This Post On

Aladdin on the Sega Master System
Back in the 90s I knew about Aladdin on the Sega Mega Drive and Super Nintendo but recently I discovered that Aladdin also came out on the Sega Master System.

When I heard about this I had to get it immediately as I was a fan of Aladdin. In my childhood I owned the movie on VHS and also had the game on the SNES. I purchased the game for the Sega Master System. Before putting on the game I immediately thought that this could be the worst one as it's on a 8 bit console and the graphics and sound quality would not be as great compared to the 16 bit consoles.

🎮🕹️đŸ’ģ Remembering My Childhood Video Game Store 🎮🕹️đŸ’ģ #RetroGaming

Sitting down in lockdown 3 watching some rubbish on the TV whilst reading Retro Gamer Magazine late at night I was dreaming of the time when we could walk into shops and browse video games and then my mind wandered off to when I was an 11-year-old boy who would visit LOGIC Computers in Cheshunt Hertfordshire to buy my Atari XE/XL tapes and cartridges for my ATARI XEGS.

Well here's more of my bad art as this time I use MS Paint to create an idea I had for an article on Video Games cartridges.

I'll probably use it as inspiration to draw these by hand.

🎮🎄 The Best Video Games Console Christmas Presents From 1979 to 2001 🎮🎄 #Retrogaming #GamersUnite

So as we hurtle towards another Christmas in 2020 I thought it would be good to take a look at the best video games related Christmas presents from down the years.

These are either cool machines from when I was alive (I was born in 1979) or they are machines that I was lucky enough to get for Christmas.

My sister got a Pong machine in the early 80s for Christmas and I can barely remember it but after that Christmas, I was always eager for a Christmas video game or a console to be popped into my Christmas stocking.

There was the classic Christmas when I was desperate for a ZX Spectrum +2 but Dad got me an ATARI XEGS but I loved it!

Christmas is a great time for a gamer as you seem to get that bit of extra downtime to play your new games before your next helping of cold turkey in a roll.

Let's kick off our Christmas look by hurtling back in time to December 1979...

Antstream arcade has been around for almost a year now and it was something I was keen to get involved with.

For those who aren’t aware of the service, it’s a subscription-based site that allows you to stream games ranging from the 8-bit home micro-computers of the 80’s such as Amstrad, Spectrum and Commodore 64 through a selection of 16-bit titles from systems such as the Amiga and Mega Drive up to an impressive amount of arcade ports that span decades.

When I chart back my journey through video games over the years and I think back to my childhood years of playing video games a pivotal moment in video games always took place at a mates house.

From my first moments of seeing a Spectrum to the point where I realised I needed a PC these moments were all borne from a visit to a friend’s house who had the latest console or the coolest game of the time.

So let’s get into my own personal time machine and head on back to those key moments from when I was growing up and discovering video games for the first time.

My brother came around last weekend and I had received a text from him the previous evening that simply asked:
“Would you mind if we spent all day playing Mega Drive games?”
My answer was in the affirmative, natch.

🕹️🎮 The Argos Catalogue & Video Games in the 1970s, 80s & 90s | A Trip Down Memory Lane 🕹️🎮 #RetroGaming @Argos_Online

Growing up in the UK as a kid during the 1970s, 80s and 90s meant that the Argos catalogue was a British kid's go-to piece of literature should you want to plan your next birthday or Christmas presents.

My first port of call was always the Video Games section which I looked at on a daily basis leading up to Christmas and Birthdays. My sister and I would play the Argos catalogue game where you would have to choose one item to buy from EVERY page and then initial it. I'd often end up having to circle and initial a duvet set that I didn't want to be followed by a Corby trouser press.

When we got to the Video Games section though the choice would be impossible to make as I was presented with all the latest video games related accessories and consoles!

My love for the Argos catalogue has carried on to this day and I still pick up a copy to circle items while playing the catalogue game.

Then something special happened recently when I stumbled across the Argos Book Of Dreams website which Argos have pulled together to make every Argos catalogue available online in a digital format! argosbookofdreams.co.uk

For me, Alex Kidd in Miracle World was a game that defined my video games playing childhood. It was a game that everybody seemed to won as it was the pack-in game with the SEGA Master System II.

My best mate Paul had a Master System II and I had the Mark 1 version with the built-in snail game. When Paul got his sleek-looking Master System II I was in awe of its design and size along with the amazing built-in Alex Kidd game.

Rocky is the video game based on the popular series of Rocky movies, released for the Sega Master System in 1987. The player must train Rocky Balboa before each fight to improve his skills.

Rocky possesses a straight punch, a hook, an uppercut, and body punch as well as various combos.

The opponents, in order, are Apollo Creed, Clubber Lang, and Ivan Drago.

Fights are of 15 rounds duration, with an increasing level of difficulty depending on the opponent, and different strategies required to overcome each.

The game also features a two-player mode where player two can choose from any of the above opponents, while player one always controls Rocky.

With Mick in my corner watch me as I dance my way to defeat!

🕹️ Which Video Games Were The Best Arcade To Console Conversions? 🎮 #Retrogaming

Share This Post On Share to Facebook Share to Twitter Share This Post On
Back when the Arcades ruled the video games world the ultimate accolade was to be seen to produce an arcade perfect conversion onto home consoles and computers.

As a gamer you'd look out for the phrase arcade perfect in any review and you knew that was the game to buy if those immortal words were uttered.

It got me thinking about some of my favourite arcade to console conversions over the years and I have compiled a nice little top 5 to show off my fave arcade to console conversions.

When you begin to dig into the SEGA console timeline you realise that the amount of consoles and add ons was an absolute mess!

You have to give it to SEGA though, they went out with a massive bang of consoles and add ons.

In order to try and make sense of it all I decided to write it all down and then create an illustarted timeline to show you all.

So here it is, hopefully you all enjoy!

Recently I stumbled across a picture of an Atari TV Switch Box on Twitter.
That picture brought back many of the memories of connecting various consoles to my old CRT TV that I had in my bedroom for many years. I always thought the switch boxes looked pretty cool and were an elegant solution to switching between the console of choice and the TV picture.
